    Frankenstein Audiobook
The original unabridged version of the book itself is not as discriptive as later versions. I listened to the recording of this particular book and I did not like it. There are a couple of times when the reader repeats lines. Further, there are several points where the same character is speaking, but the readers voice changes. It is very confusing as to who is speaking. I have listened to several adiobooks and I liked this one the least. The actual plot of the book was a great story (but beware there is a lot of vocabulary) but this particular recording was not as professionally produced as others I have heard.
    Frankenstein
This story suprise me. It is only slightly familiar to any of the movies. I enjoyed learning how the people in the story changed and evolved. The first part is a little slow. Once you get into the story of this young man Frankenstein it becomes very interesting.
I would listen to Ralph Cosham...
... read his shopping lists. He sounds like the Rochester I always imagined in my mind's ear whenever I read Jane Eyre.

    Publisher's Summary:
Anne Elliot has grieved for seven years over the loss of her first and only love, Captain Frederick Wentworth. When their paths finally cross again, Anne finds herself slighted and all traces of their former intimacy gone. As the pair continue to share the same social circle, dramatic events in Lyme Regis, and later in Bath, conspire to unravel the knots of deceit and misunderstanding in this beguiling and gently comic story of love and fidelity.
    Editorial Reviews:
Listening to Juliet Stevenson's marvelous narration, one wonders if she collaborated with Austen in another life. Her narration enhances the text so beautifully that one thinks the author must have coached her. Stevenson applies vocal interpretations that make the characters pop with life. Mary whines and exclaims perfectly; Admiral Croft snaps listeners to attention; Sir Walter Elliot effervesces with indignation over the state of his finances. Only Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth speak in calm, measured tones. Nestled in social commentary targeting the matter of class, the story traces the twists and turns that Anne and Frederick must navigate on the road to love.

    Wonderful.
I love anything by Jane Austen, and I think this is one of her best works. It's a sweet love story, and I enjoyed listening to the narrator tell this shorter version of it. It's a good abridgement with bits and pieces of classical music thrown in to help things along, and the story flowed just fine. I love, love, love it! Definitely a must listen for all Jane Austen fans.
    Excellent editing
Superb narration of a well-edited classic. I recommend many books narrated by Juliette Stevenson.
    Yet another Classic
What did you like most about Persuasion?
Having read the book many times I never cease to enjoy this story. I love all the books written by Jane Austin and hope to build up my library of old favourites now that my sight has deteriorated and I can o longer see well enough to read them myself.
What did you like best about this story?
As in all Jane Austin's books I love the development of her characters, descriptions, and the plot. It is also set in an era I particularly like.
Have you listened to any of Juliet Stevensons other performances? How does this one compare?
Yes I have and enjoyed them as I did this one.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Stick to the story as written!

    Publisher's Summary:
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was an American writer of novels and short stories, whose works have been seen as evocative of the Jazz Age, a term he himself allegedly coined. He is regarded as one of the greatest 20th-century writers. Fitzgerald was of the self-styled "Lost Generation", Americans born in the 1890s who came of age during World War I. He finished four novels, left a fifth unfinished, and wrote dozens of short stories that treat themes of youth, despair, and age. In the short story "The Jelly Bean" he tells of Jim Powell, a Jelly Bean. The story looks at several issues including how fleeting popularity and a good name can be.
    Members Reviews:
    Claims to be annotated. Isn't.
So don't buy. Fitzgerald is a great writer, and The Jelly-Bean is a great story. But it's available elsewhere. Don't be duped into buying an edition that isn't what it claims.

    Members Reviews:
Oh the absolute horror! And I don't mean Poe...
What disappointed you about The Complete Poetical Works of Edgar Allan Poe?
I love Audiobooks and Audible has changed my life, but who in their right mind would have Ken Maxon deliver Poe's poetry?!?!?
Ken Maxon's reading sounds like something typed into a 1990's speech synthesizer. Every sentence ends on an upwinding inflection like he's advertising the best deal in home supplies or an electronics store. I mean come on!!! The first poem is the Raven and forget about it sounding like the sad and soul stirring piece of work. It's read like a description of a bowling match!
Seriously! Avoid Ken Maxon as a narrator. I don't mean to be ad hominem, but unless the book is comprised of a list of surprising facts, don't bother buying it.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
    In every possible thinkable way...
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Bitter disappointment and I want my money back!
    Any additional comments?
Why would a publisher do this? Is this wanton cruelty or just plain old stupid corner cutting so you don't have to pay a real actor to read?
    Why so surprised!?
Would you be willing to try another one of Ken Maxons performances?
I would not! I love Edgar Allen Poe, truly he is one of my favourite authors of all time. But as for Ken Maxon? It took me three sentences of the raven, so immediately regret buying this book. Robotic, unemotional and underwhelming. Poes poetry is meant to be read in a ay that takes your breath away, however Ken makes it dull and in my opinion, not worth listening too. He sounds overly surprised at the end of every sentence! My advice? Just buy a hard back copy!

    Genres: Classics, British Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
Thomas Hardy's moving story of star-crossed lovers shows human beings at the mercy of forces beyond their control, setting a tragic drama of human passion against a backdrop of space and scientific discovery.
Unhappily married, Lady Constantine defies social standards when she falls in love with the youthful and socially inferior Swithin St. Cleeve. In an ancient monument converted into an astronomical observatory, they isolate themselves from society and create their own private universe - until the pressures of the outside world threaten to tear them apart.
    Members Reviews:
    It's Hardy, so it's worthwhile.
It may be difficult for a contemporary person to be patient with the timid outlook of the main female character, but in Hardy's time, 'proper' women really were that constrained by society, unless they had vast personal wealth under their own personal control.
The choices for others were submit, the street, or suicide.
Hardy may not have been the most skillful literary light. but his was a great and empathetic heart. His insight into the nuances of emotion, reason, and relationships are an education to his readers. Wish he had a sense of humor, but then, I read Trollope for that....

    Publisher's Summary:
Animal Farm is a dystopian novel in the form of an allegory by George Orwell. The book was published in England in 1945.
    Abridged version.
A farm is taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. With flaming and stirring slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice, and equality.
When Animal Farm was first published, Stalinist Russia was seen as its target. Animal Farm reflects events leading up to and during the Stalin era before World War II. Today it is devastatingly clear that wherever and whenever freedom is attacked, under whatever banner, the cutting clarity and savage comedy of George Orwell's masterpiece has meaning and message, still ferociously fresh.
The audiobook version of Animal Farm was translated and produced by Talking Books LTD.
    Music: Ran Bagno.

    Critic Reviews:
"Peter Joyce is the most remarkable one-man band in audiobook publishing. Joyce, an experienced actor, reads them all himself." (The Independent)
Family sagas, from Icelandic to Aga, have diverted readers for centuries, but the Forsytes remain the brand leaders. The clever thing about this edition is that it comes in small, easily digestible portions. Peter Joyce, whose rhetorical resonance is perfect for his subject, has divided the saga into nine volumes, each lasting around five hours. Listen for yourselves. It was the dialogue that had me constantly rewinding. their lives are eminently and endlessly fascinating. (Sue Arnold, The Guardian)
