Original stories, Great narrator

This collection was one of the best set of short stories I have read in a long time. The narrator did an excellent job bringing the stories to life. He handled a lot of the stories' absurdity in just the right way to make the listener feel like he is in on the joke. I am looking forward to more by this reader and the narrator.

The Best Writer You Don't Know

When people ask me, "Who's your favorite writer few others have ever heard of?"-- I say Greg Boyd.

I discovered his work through Harold Jaffe's "Fiction International" in San Diego in 1992. When I was asked to edit the first "Best American Erotica" series, it was Greg's epic crucifix satire, "Horny" was at the top of my list. Before Nicholson Baker, Patrick Califia, Samuel Delany, or Anne Rice.

This collection is superb. It gathers old favorites and new work for a complete sampling of Boyd's brand of avant guard, surreal and entertaining prose.

His story Horny about a religious flagellant publicly punishing his flesh for his bodys sexual urges is a fascinating look into the mortification of the flesh and entirely original. The Further Adventures of Tom, Huck, and Jim transplants the classic Twain characters to the modern day L.A. River-- Youll never hear those characters voices the same way again. Hucks a real estate schuckster. Becky left him and moved back to Missouri, and after being robbed, he finds Tom and Jim living under a bridge by the dried up river.

Christopher Kipiniaks deep, gravelly voice fits perfect with Boyds stories. He combines gravity with the absurd.

Good but

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This story is enjoyable to read , but left me wanting. First after looking at the cover again I noticed that it looks like a kid on the front not a man.

I felt like this was just the beginning of the book not a full book or story. A good chunk was just sex no really story line. It just felt unfinished. What was there was well written but left me wanting more, yet had no really direction or where it could or would have gone.

Werewolf island

This book was kinda lacking in what I don't know but it was not what I expected. However it was interesting.

Survival or Die

A story well paced romance. Meera and Avery. Meera was trying to feed her mother and family when she was caught stealing apples. The king was cruel, made fun of her BBW size and sentenced her to death on Werewolf Island. She was very frightened. She did not know how she would survive but after one night in the forest she found water to drink and some mushrooms to eat. She was then chased by a very large werewolf and when she thought she was safe, she turned around and hit a tree. But it was not a tree it was a beautiful man who got her to a cave to safety. His name was Avery. She knew then he was a werewolf. He propositioned her to become his mate and though she was afraid she was in survival mode and agreed. The story goes on to tell of their first romantic interlude. Very sexy and very HOT. I received an Advanced Readers copy of this book from BookSprout.

Avery fines a mate.

After stealing food to give her sick mother, Meera was found guilt and send to Werewolf Island and possibly her death. Her main goal was to find shelter, water , food and to stay away from the werewolf in order to survive on this island. While looking for water, Meera hears growling from a werewolf and takes off running to get away from it, were she runs right into a man. Not just any man, but a gorgeous, well built man and who helps her to find shelter in a cave. Avery is a werewolf and was born on the island, but when he saw Meera, he knew he had to have her for his mate. Now Avery has to convince Meera, that werewolf are safe to be around and to be his mate.

This was a short love story, that was well written, and interesting to read and enjoy.

Brockton does it again!

I really like Nancy Brockton. This story illustrates why. She handles reluctance and desire better than nearly every erotica author. She takes a pretty cliche idea (Come on, Doctor/Patient interactions are the stuff of cheesy porn) and she somehow makes it seem fresh and original. I could almost imagine myself in Hope's situation, and the reactions Brockton creates seem absolutely believable.

I just finished up a long and laborious erotica novel from an author I won't mention. I paid 99 cents to be bored for a five hour read. This one has been sitting on my kindle for months, and I finished it in about fifteen minutes. I swear to high heaven that the fifteen minutes of red-hot fun made up for the boring five hours. God, that 99 cents cost me hours of my life I'll never get back, but paying three times as much for a fifteen minute read made up for it.

Don't bother. Short and disappointing

Short and disappointing. Not worth it, not even if it were offered for free and I'm not that hard to please.
