We chatted to Headteacher Anne French, Acting Principal Teacher Patricia Slater, and pupils Erica, Rowan, Max and Brandon.

Bill Butterworth, Bikeability Scotland Coordinator for Perth and Kinross is the 2024 winner of the ‘Keith Fergus Annual Achievement’ Award. We spoke to Bill about life after early retirement, the strengths of a flexible approach to delivery, and how it feels to be recognised.

Angie Murchison, Pupil Support Assistant at Hazlehead Primary School in Aberdeen is the Bikeability Scotland Instructor of the Year 2024. We spoke to Angie about how Bikeability is delivered at the school and her personal approach to training.

Mike Blakeman of Dumfries and Galloway Active Schools was presented with the Bikeability Scotland ‘Instructor of the Year’ award in recognition of his success in delivering fully inclusive and engaging training throughout the year. Mike, a former teacher, known affectionately as ‘Mikeability’ for his personal dedication to delivering cycle training, took time out of his busy schedule to chat to us about creating a cycle ethos in a school and how the skills that children develop reach far beyond cycling.

Hythehill Primary School in Lossiemouth is the 2023 Bikeability Scotland ‘School of the Year’. Class teacher, Blair Williamson, talked to Cycling Scotland about how inclusivity and community are at the heart of the school’s cycle culture and why, “no girns” is a great measure of success.

Deputy Head Teacher, Martin Collins, has worked across a number of schools in Moray and his experiences elsewhere combined with a personal commitment to cycling and support from parents, children, teaching staff, management and Outfit Moray combined to make Hythehill a “Bikeability school”. Before the awards ceremony he talked to Cycling Scotland about what lessons he would share and why cycling is part of a much bigger picture.
