The current minority government is attempting to pass through amendments to powers of the CRTC, which would expand it's powers online specifically around user generated content. This may have significant impact on freedom of speech and expression here in Canada, and this is likely going to be the first of many discussions around this controversial legislation.
Also this week, if things in politics couldn't get crazier, the Ontario government passed a law using the rarely seen notwithstanding clause. After a superior court justice called the proposed act unconstitutional, citing the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the bill was passed anyways for a temporary 5 year period! We discuss what the bill is, and how it may have a significant impact on next year's election.
