No Night Vale episode this week, so after the usual sitrep (Summary: More ways to say “everyone’s fine”) we talk about about the Netflix series “Beastars” (Odd bit of trivia, Elizabeth watched the dubbed version and Kathryn watched it with the Japanese-language track. Both are excellent, but the difference in voice actors really made a difference in how much we liked some of the characters.)

We’ve also got information on the freebies you can get by signing up to be Patreons for Adam Warren and Megatokyo. And we may be doing some research to see if Chris Evans looked as good in 2007 as he does in last year’s movie Knives Out. (It’s a tough job, but we do this for you, listeners. All five of you.)

After a quick coronavirus sitrep from us and the family (short version: everybody’s fine, wash your hands!) we switch to a lighter note with a Welcome To Night Vale recap, as the telepathic cult from the Desert Otherworld invades Night Vale and promises to kill anybody who can’t hear the Pilot’s voice in their brains. So, uh, maybe not that light?

For real though, we go way lighter after that, with a quick discussion of Star Trek: Discovery (so good!), Devs (so surreal!), Ozark (so irritating!) and Beastars (so weird! But beautiful! But weird! The bit with the eggs!)

Correction: Elizabeth said she was done with the first season of Star Trek: Discovery. Turns out, she thought the season finale was episode 8, when really it’s episode 15, because she didn’t click the “show more” button on the episode list. What a noob.

 

We tried really hard to get a nice screencap of us trying out Zoom for the podcast, but Kathryn’s cat Starbuck wouldn’t stay on the back of the chair and Elizabeth’s cat Cricket was in Resting Bitch Face mode.

Things are progressing quickly in the five-part story about the missing Delta Flight 18713 and the escaped inmates of the Night Vale asylum. The Desert Otherworld is coming into play, and there’s a good chance that a mad pilot who can read minds is trying to cross over to our world so he can take over the town.

It’s a surprisingly complex story that for some reason we didn’t need much time to cover (seriously, ten minutes tops). After that we talked about the Netflix anime Beastars (messed up in an intriguing way and quite gorgeous to look at), Picard (meh), Discovery (much better than Picard), and the Youtube channel Overly Sarcastic Productions (utterly hilarious).

And then of course we have the weekly update about the COVID-19 status in California, Florida, and North Carolina, including some discussion about what isn’t a violation of the First Amendment, and our adventures in getting groceries delivered during a pandemic.

(tl;dr: Everyone’s fine.)
