How do you know what is right vs. wrong or good vs. evil? What standard do you use to determine what you “ought” to do or what you ought to value? Morality is an integral part of your worldview. And every worldview must answer this and other important questions remembered by the mnemonic “GO HOME.” These correspond to God, Origins, Humanity, Ought (Morality), Meaning, and End (Destiny).

This episode concentrates on Ought (or Morality). What standard do we base our moral decisions? Is it an absolute standard established in the character and nature of God revealed in the Bible? Or do we make ethical decisions based on ever-changing guidelines?

3:37 - Morality is how you decide between what is right vs. wrong or good vs. evil. The question is whether the standard for making moral choices is absolute or relative.

4:03 - People who believe in relativism believe that morality depends on an ever-changing standard. Their moral decisions have no fixed basis. They base their moral actions on ever-changing standards based on culture or people, or situations.

4:18 - Christians believe there is an absolute standard for what is right vs. wrong or good vs. evil (i.e., morality). An absolute standard means permanent values and duties built into the world that spans all places and all people.

4:30 - God is the ultimate source of what is right vs. wrong or good vs. evil. The absolute standard for the moral law is grounded in God’s character and nature revealed in Scripture. An “absolute” moral law applies to all people at all times, in all places, and under all circumstances, whether we like it or not! And these laws are evidenced in the Bible. For example, in the Old Testament, we have the Ten Commandments (Exod. 20) and Christ’s teaching of the Beatitudes (Matt. 5:1-12)

5:51 - The Bible is sufficient for living out the Christian life and obedience to God (2 Pet. 1:3). And situations not covered in Scripture, taking time to study usually yields us the answer.

7:49 - How can we follow God’s absolute moral standard in our lives? By recognizing we come up short (Matt 22:37-40), and because we fail to keep God’s laws come up short. That is why Jesus took on our sins when he died for us. And now, if we place our faith in Christ, we are counted as having his obedience.

9:03 - When you become a Jesus follower, you are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who empowers us to live a more Christ-like life if we choose.

10:24 - God has given us several tools to be able to follow his moral law. They include the Bible, prayer (Jas 1:5), and Godly counselors.

A worldview is a fundamental way you view the world and affects every decision you make. Your worldview covers at least six essential topics: God, Origins, Humanity, Ought (Morality), Meaning, End (Destiny), or "GO HOME." Today's topic is Humanity.

What is the role of humans in the universe? Are we special? If we are unique, why is that? Only Christianity provides realistic answers to these substantive questions.

God created humans in his image (Gen 1:27), which explains our unique role in the universe. And despite broken fellowship with him in the Garden of Eden, God has provided a way for every person to experience what it means to be fully human through accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

5:36 - What's the answer? Only God could solve the problem. He did this by sending Jesus to earth as a perfect human who willingly died as a sacrifice on the cross. As our substitute, Jesus took on our sins and punishment and paid our sin debt to God. So by accepting Christ as our Savior, we can spend eternity with God.

7:21 - Jesus is the one who rescues the image of God in us! By accepting Christ as our Savior, we can become more fully human.

7:58 - So what? Why does a proper understanding of humanity matter at all? First, we are not a random collection of atoms bumping into each other until we decay and die. Since humans are created in God's image, all humans should be valued, loved, and respected.

8:58 - Everyone needs the Gospel. We can only rescue the image of God within us by accepting Jesus. God alone transforms us. And across the world, we see God manifest among fellow believers until, in his eternal kingdom, God's glory is everywhere.

A worldview is the fundamental way you view the world and affects every decision you make. Your worldview answers at least six questions about topics that affect the way you take in data, process it, make decisions, and then act. Today’s episode discusses God and Origins.

A worldview is like a pair of eyeglasses putting the world around us into focus. The proper prescription helps us see everything clearly, the wrong prescription of scratched or marred lenses distorts the world and can give us the wrong information.

A worldview asks six questions remembered by the mnemonic “GO HOME”. Today we are going to discuss the first two questions relating to God and Origins (where do we come from).

1:27 - Analogy of eyeglasses helps understand a worldview. Only one prescription is correct, and any other prescription is wrong. Similarly, only theism and specifically Christianity is the one correct worldview to view the world around you.

3:52 - God: God’s existence and attributes determine the seven worldviews: theism, atheism, pantheism, polytheism, finite godism, panentheism, and deism. Only theism’s Christianity is true.

4: 36 - Christians believe in one God (monotheism) who exists as a Trinity (Father, Son-Jesus, and Holy Spirit). And we believe Jesus is fully God and fully human. These distinguishing beliefs are mysteries beyond our “comprehension.” But through analogies, we can “apprehend” them sufficiently to show that they are not contradictions.

8:00 - What are God’s attributes? An attribute is an inherent characteristic of a person or Being. We only know God’s attributes because of the Bible. God is an uncaused, self-existent Being (Ex. 3:14). He is an invisible Spirit (John 4:24) who is eternal (Rev. 1:8, 17), omnipresent (Psa 139:7-12), omniscient (Job 38:39; Rom. 11:33–36), and omnipotent (Job 42:2). God is also sovereign (Exod. 20:2-3) and absolutely perfect. The only Being worthy of being worshipped.

11:10 - Origins “Where did the universe and humans come from?"

11:29 - There are only four possibilities for the existence of the universe. 

12:16 - Problems arise in discussions about the origin of the universe.

12:30 - The universe logically could not be caused by nothing or “self-caused” because these choices are contradictory.

13:03 - But some worldviews believe in a universe that has existed for an infinite number of moments.

13:26 - An infinitely old universe is impossible because of the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics.

14:22 - An infinitely old universe is mathematically impossible. In a real physical universe, an infinite number of moments cannot be traversed.

15:04 - The only answer to our universe’s origin is that it was caused (created) by an eternal and uncaused Creator God. And that is what the Bible says is true.

15:45 - So what? Why is it important that Christians believe in these concepts about God and Origins?

16:02 - A Christian God can give us confidence and security 

17:01 - The eternal communion within the Trinity and Jesus being fully God and fully human means that our God desires a personal relationship with humans. Christ’s love for us and willingness to die for our salvation is unlike any other religion.
