Birds have caught the imagination of many songwriters. This program is top and tailed by two memorable songs about birds. From the very popular ‘Rumours’ album Fleetwood Mac’s talented Christine McVie wrote and performed the lovely ballad Songbird as the opening number. The Beatles’ classic Blackbird completes the program. In between there are two songs about eagles from two Aussie singers, Russell Morris’ Wings Of An Eagle and Bobby Bright’s obscure Wedge Tailed Eagle. Class acts Patti Page Mockin’Bird Hill and the Everly Bros’ quirky Bird Dog also feature. Probably the only song about a flamingo is Manfred Mann’s Pretty Flamingo. Disco favourite Fly Robin Fly by Silver Convention and the Trashmen’s Surfin’ Bird add to an eclectic mix.
