Carla chats with Laura Spencer, independent midwife and founder of Gentle Midwifery Norfolk, about why so many parents don’t feel seen in pregnancy and birth – and what a gentler, more personalised approach can look like.

Laura shares how her own pregnancies opened her eyes to the gaps in maternity care. That experience pushed her to retrain as a midwife, start at the very bottom as a volunteer and breastfeeding supporter, work in the NHS… and eventually take the leap into independent practice when the private midwifery company she worked for folded overnight.
