This is Birth Rites with your host, Synmia Rosine. Birth Rites is a transformative series that explores stories of birth and creation as a sacred rite of passage. Listen, here we believe whether you’re birthing a human, a project, or an idea, birth as it is holds the key to healing our individual lives, our culture, and humanity as a whole.
This episode we have Kacie Carter sharing her story. Her birth, like for many of us, did not flow as planned. And after birth and during her postpartum period she was able to sit with her experience and talk with us about what she learned, what her boundaries and preferences are and will be for her next birth.
So for those of you who don't live in the LA area, she is the chef and co-founder of Honey Hi in Echo Park, California. Kacie is a practicing holistic nutritionist rooted in inflexibility and experimentation vs dogma and restriction. She is a new mother, and resides in Los Angeles with her husband and child. Now, let’s get cozy and listen in as Kacie shares her story.

Hey family, it's been a while and we were over due for catchup. In this episode we are honoring the importance of Maternal Mental Health month and what I’ve been up to since coming back from our two-month-long trip to France. The time to be vulnerable and open is now, so in this very special episode, I am sharing one of my birth stories with you for the very first time. The ritual act of storytelling is the interconnecting web that weaves us together through our experiences. And connecting through experiences can create a butterfly effect leading us closer to our own blossoming. Now, let's get cozy and listen in as I share my story.

Maureen Nicol is a creative director, digital storyteller, model, community maker, and educator, with a doctorate in curriculum and teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is committed to the transformative work of balancing cultural programming initiatives and engagement strategies in unique locales. While seeking community through a restorative wilderness experience, Maureen observed that few of these spaces are accessible to women of color. She went on to be the founder of Mamas Who Dream, an organization uniquely focused on designing and spearheading wilderness retreats for mothers of color through an economically sustainable and financially equitable model. Maureen’s through line is creating spaces and places with a focus on caregivers and children of color and Black parenting. Her latest initiative, Our House Baltimore, seeks to transform the notion of a children’s recreational space into a multigenerational play area with offerings for adults and children alike.

In this weeks episode, we have Juliana. Juliana grew up in a small town in southern Brazil, grounded in community and tradition. At 25, she journeyed to America, where she met her husband, Markus. Together, they embraced vibrant city life across Miami, London, and New York. The birth of their daughter, Antonia, inspired a shift—they sought a slower pace and deeper family connection. This led them to Idyllwild in the San Jacinto Mountains, where they’ve found a nurturing, nature-rich sanctuary to raise their daughter and reconnect with life’s simpler rhythms. Now lets get cozy and listen in as Juliana tells her story.
