This month, for our paid subscriber call, we gathered around a question I hear from so many women who are carrying a lot: how do we actually let ourselves be held?
So many of us say we want more support, and then when it arrives (the babysitter, the assistant, the partner we finally asked more of), it can leave us feeling like we have more to hold, not less. We slowed down long enough to feel why that happens, and what it truly takes to receive support that feels like support.
Last month, in our Birthing the New call, we named what we most want for this season and how we want to show up. This felt like the natural next movement. Once we know what we want, we have to be able to let ourselves be supported in it, and to meet the resistance that so often rises the very moment we reach for the thing we most desire.
We looked at what happens to support when there is no feedback woven through it, how it can start to feel overbearing, or misaligned, or unappreciated on both sides, and how feedback is the thing that lets support actually land. And then we went underneath all of it, into resistance, which I believe is the single most important skill to grow if you want a business and a life that hold you, rather than one you are forever holding together.
We completed this month’s call with a somatic practice by dropping into the body to meet the part of us that says “no, but...” right at the edge of a dream, and asking it what it actually wants. Wherever you are with support in your life right now, whether it feels abundant or thin, whether you are the one always holding or the one learning to let go, there is nothing wrong with that. You are right on time.
If you can carve out a few minutes to watch this month’s replay, I would love for you to join us. The practice inside is one you can return to again and again, any time a desire meets that familiar hitch in your body, no matter the season you find yourself moving into next.
Inside I teach:
A one-to-two-minute box breath that settles the nervous system into rest and digest, a far more generative place to create from
Why support without feedback can leave you with more to do, not less, and how to turn feedback into a dance you get to lead
The truth about resistance that so many caring, intuitive women miss, and why it is neither a red light to obey nor a green light to charge straight through
A guided practice for turning your resistance up instead of down, letting it become a character, and asking it who it is and what it needs
The three things to write down afterward so the shift ripples into your next 24 to 48 hours instead of staying on the cushion
And after you tune in, I would love to hear: What did your resistance have to say? What is the one small thing you are doing in the next day or two to show a tender part of you that you have got her back? Share with me in the comments. There is so much power in being witnessed, in naming out loud what you want and how you are choosing to be supported in it.
I will be honest with you. I teach this, I lead these practices, and I still feel the hands around my own throat when resistance comes up, especially at the edge of something I deeply want. That is the truth of this work. We do not arrive at it once and keep it forever. We come back, and back, and back again, ideally most days, or (almost) most days in this particular season of small children.
The full live, including the guided resistance practice, lives inside the paid subscription, right alongside our monthly moon rituals (this month’s full moon in Aquarius ritual is already waiting in your feed) and our monthly community calls. If you know you need this kind of space, a place to keep coming home to yourself and to the parts of you that are asking to be heard, the door is open to you. It is just $8/month, and it is built around practice, ritual, and integration, rather than more information to consume. We are well past the information age. What serves us now is the space, and the company, to actually return to ourselves so we can take action from a place of intention and alignment.
Let what you most want lead what comes next. I will see you in the comments, or inside the next live.
Wishing you support that truly feels like support,
Emily
