I had the honor of taking my girls on their first trip to one of my favorite places, Charleston, SC. I had saved and saved for this trip and was so excited to get to spend this time alone with my daughters and experience new things with them. We got way out of our comfort zone, stayed at an amazing location, and just soaked up every bit of the beauty of this city. This is part one (of 3) from our trip! We hope you enjoy!

There is much debate online about the origins of the "hoe cake" or "johnny cake" or "journey cake," but this is the recipe that I feel comes closest to my grandmother's version of "hoe cake" that we grew up on. It's delicious, you will want to try this one out.

My Biscuit Recipe:

3 cups all purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking soda

lard

buttermilk
