As the quarantine continues and the news keeps us filled with anxiety, we decided to lighten your stress load this week. Dr. Tanji Gilliam of @oil_house_ is with us to talk about the topic of love in Hip-Hop. It is a fun conversation and enlightening about how we see art, ourselves and others.

Nathan Mendelsohn @nathanmendelsohnbjj is a multiple champion jiu-jitsu black belt and rapper (known as Elite Technique) based in Santa Cruz, CA. They talk in depth about his journey in Hip-Hop, how he sees connections between that and rap and the surf culture in Santa Cruz. Then they have a deeper talk about mental health and the struggle for self mastery in regards to staying focused on what you love.

Adisa the Bishop has an incredible no holds barred conversation with Brother Ali @brotheraliisblind. They talk about his  experiences in the wake of George Floyd riots, his thoughts on Whiteness seen through the lens of Hip-Hop, the art of Moroccan tea, and motorcycle caravans with Dave Chappelle. This is one for the books!

DJ Platurn @platurn is a Hip-Hop fixture within The Bay Area and then the world, via the Oakland Faders. Plus he has a beautiful legacy of mixtapes of ATCQ and most recently @redmangilla. He and Adisa have a great conversation answering the question "If you could only play ONE song for a person who had never heard of Hip-Hop what song would you play?"

This week we go deep on Hip-Hop, chess and race in the chess world. His guest is  Florida A&M professor Dr. Daaim Shabazz @chessdrummer, founder of the Chess Drum. Everything from Wu Tang to chess in Africa, the Arab world is up for discussion.
