Unpacking the Greek root behind "learn"—which is deeply connected to being a disciple—Jim reminds us that we are created to be lifelong learners of Jesus. Following Christ isn't about arriving at complete perfection; it's about walking, working, and watching how Jesus lives so we can experience His unforced rhythms of grace in our daily lives. As disciples, we are challenged to slow down, find a quiet space, and sit with God to gain fresh understanding and build deeper trust in Him.

Weekly Challenge: Find a quiet space with God this week, sit in His presence, and ask: “God, what are You teaching me right now, and how can I walk with You today?”

In week three of our "HEAR" series, Pastor Jim Ellis explores the second part of Jesus' invitation in Matthew 11:28–30. Beyond the call to "come," Jesus gives a warm, urgent, and active challenge: "Take my yoke upon you." Looking at the Greek imperatives, Jim unpacks how a yoke binds us together with Christ and invites us into His way of living—a life marked by agape love for God, love for others, and stepping out in the Great Commission. While the "empire of me" often stands in the way, taking on Jesus' yoke isn't burdensome; it is a yoke of true freedom.

Weekly Challenge: Spend 9 minutes with God in Matthew 22:33–40 this week and ask Him: “What are you saying to me, and how should I respond?”

Jim reminds us that before we can clearly hear God's voice, we have to heed Jesus's invitation to "come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." By slowing down, resting in His gentle presence, and understanding our identity as His flock, we find the capacity to recognize our Good Shepherd's voice and follow His lead. Concluding our summer series "One Three Nine," Pastor Jim Ellis tackles the final, challenging section of Psalm 139:19–24. While this Psalm is easy to love in its earlier verses, it takes a difficult turn as David uses strong language regarding his enemies and expressions of hate. Jim unpacks how these verses are descriptive of David's raw human emotions, rather than prescriptive for how we should live. Ultimately, David’s example teaches us to bring our most intense feelings honestly before God, exposing our hearts so we can release them to Him. Grounded in the truth that every single person either is or was an enemy of God, this final message invites us to submit to the One who was slain for us, crying out: "Search me, know my heart, and lead me in the way everlasting."
