Echauri Suarez should be celebrating after winning Cuba’s top prize for his work as a neighborhood surveillance leader but his country has other plans for him.  Notorious dissident Orlando Contreras is moving into his barrio, and Echauri is tasked with being the first eyes and ears to greet him.  Echauri should be relishing his huge patriotic honors but Contreras’ move and another controversy that erupts in his neighborhood are keeping him in constant crisis management. 

Orlando Contreras, one of Cuba’s most respected dissidents, is a man with a steel will, and a powerful way with words.  When the New York Times interviews him for his unique perspective on the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, Contreras unpacks what the colorful underside of Cuba’s Dystopian world really is like. 

Devout Cuban revolutionary Echauri Suarez, a combat veteran, is the old president of his neighborhood’s Comite de la Defensa de la Revolución - and a man that his neighbors both fear and despise.  Nothing escapes his attention to Revolutionary detail until one fateful day that will change everything.

In the midst of a massive neighborhood power outage, Micaela Martinez learns that a friend has died in prison but not before sending her a mysterious letter titled ‘Bistec.’  Her friend’s death and her own grave health problems prompt Micaela to audio record a strange, and miraculous story about her neighborhood’s snitches and dissidents.

This is the first visual trailer for the English edition of the Bistec podcast series, a cautionary story of faith, patriotic fanaticism, and surveillance in Dystopian Cuba.  

‘Bistec’ is the riveting story of a longtime Cuban Revolutionary and what happens when one of the nation’s prominent dissidents moves into his neighborhood, exposing secrets, upending lives, and testing loyalties.  Set during the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution in 2009, ‘Bistec’ unveils the contemporary world of Cuba’s enigmatic surveillance and snitches system, all within the framework of a compelling, emotional narrative filled with unexpected twists.

The eight-part limited series is launching with two episodes per week on Mondays in English and Spanish and is now available on all major podcast platforms, including iTunes, Spotify, Audible and more.
