In which the podcast does a deep dive on what history tells us about Pocahontas, the history of Jamestown, and how we ended up with the romanticized version of the John Smith and Pocahontas story that we know today.

  • Episode 1: American History 101 - The Age of Exploration and the Colonization of America

This is the intro lecture to American history that my students get every semester (with the addition of a bit of extra sarcasm), which opens on the history of European Colonialism in the Americas. Press play to hear why Europeans crossed thousands of miles of ocean just to oppress the natives and steal all their shit.

I planned for this episode to go more into the colonization of America by Spain originally, but I've had a cold all week and recording even this much was a strain for my vocal cords. So I cut this intro episode a bit short.

About Bitchy History

From the publisher's feed

Part history lesson, part feminist rant. Bitchy History is what happens when a cultural historian finally snaps. Each episode unravels the myths America tells about itself, exposes the gender politics underneath, and traces the lineage of our modern disasters straight back to their historical roots. It’s educational, cathartic, and probably banned in Florida.
