  • #07: Epilogue - Altcoins, NFTs, Diversification

Season 1 of the Bitcoin and the Bible Podcast has focused on establishing the foundation for the moral imperative of sound money. This episode provides a summary of the first six episodes and a engaging discussion of questions submitted by listeners.

    Questions discussed:

    • What about other “cryptos?” Are they something that Christians can or should own or invest in along with Bitcoin?
    • What about NFT (Non-fungible tokens)? What are they and is there a future for them with Bitcoin?
    • Isn’t investing in the stock market (particularly the S&P 500) an easier way to protect and grow your money than Bitcoin for those who do not have time to learn Bitcoin?
    • Isn’t it wise to diversify your assets so as to not put all of your eggs into one “imaginary basket?”
    • Does Bitcoin meet the standards of being an “equal weight and measure” per Proverbs 20:10?
    • Can you address the “Tower of Babel” concern that Bitcoin could become a one-world/one government money that is more dangerous than beneficial for Christians?

    • #06: Can I trust Bitcoin?

One of the most important issues for Christians considering Bitcoin is Trust.

The episode begins by looking to the Bible for what God says about Truth, Trust, and Verification. This is followed by an open and honest discussion about various areas of concern for those considering Bitcoin including security, scams, and scare tactics.

The episode concludes with suggestions of practical wisdom that you can implement to strengthen your confidence in Bitcoin and your own personal security.

      Concerns Addressed:

      1. Is a money that is “stored on the Internet” durable in the face of internet outages, electrical blackouts, and computer viruses?”

      2. Is Bitcoin a Ponzi scheme?

      3. Is Bitcoin something that can be hacked?

      4. Is Bitcoin susceptible to regulatory pressure by government?

      5. If I am not tech savvy, is it likely I will lose or corrupt my Bitcoin?

      6. If Bitcoin is just software, why can’t a group overwrite the code to inflate the supply or confiscate my portion?

      7. Why should I trust Bitcoin miners? Wouldn’t they be incentivized to steal?

      8. When the Bitcoin incentive structure ends, what will motivate miners to continue validating transactions? In other words, is it durable for the future?

      9. The volatility of the price is harsh and does not give me confidence in the store of value. Will it ever become more stable?

    • #05: It's all connected - Bitcoin the Network

This exciting episode delves into Bitcoin’s capacity to serve as the world’s first instant clearance monetary network. This is the third step in building the foundation of what Bitcoin is so that we can then compare it confidently to God’s character and His requirements of those who use money. Ultimately, we want to carefully answer a specific question, “Can Christians (or non-Christians) trust in Bitcoin as a moral, durable, and valuable monetary system?”

      Questions we discuss:

      1. What is a network?

      2. What are some examples of current networks and how they became valuable or even indispensable?

      3. What are some of the networks that Bitcoin will subsume or replace?

      4. How do we see Bitcoin becoming a network before our eyes right now?

      5. What needs to change or improve in Bitcoin as a technology before its capacity to serve as the world’s monetary network is realized?

      6. What needs to change in the world before it can use Bitcoin as a monetary network?

      7. What are the primary value propositions of Bitcoin as a monetary network?

      8. Are there concerns we should have about using/developing Bitcoin as a monetary network?

      9. What is a network effect?

Simon, Will, and David build on Episode 3 (Bitcoin as Money) by discussing how Bitcoin functions as a Technology. Technology growth and change can be difficult and can cause us to fear rather than embrace new technologies. Genesis 1-2 tells us that we were not created to fear the creation, but to exercise dominion over it and improve it. Tune in to hear how Christians can approach Bitcoin, understand the technology, and take steps toward embracing it as sound, free, trustworthy money.

    • #03: In the Beginning - Bitcoin as Money

Simon, Will, and David begin building the moral case for Bitcoin by looking first at Bitcoin as money.

James 2:8–9 "If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors."

The usage of the story of “Bitcoin Island” provides a simple way to understand the beauty and utility of the Bitcoin ledger.
