Cannabis for Creatives: How 32 Artists Enhance and Sustain Inspiration with Jordana Wright

Cannabis has long been used and revered for its many benefits, from its widely acknowledged medical applications to its commonly accepted ability to help people relax. And now, with the list of states and countries legalizing marijuana usage for all purposes growing rapidly, we’ve finally reached a tipping point where cannabis is achieving a level of mainstream acceptance and usage, especially among artists.

In Cannabis for Creatives, photographer and cannabis advocate Jordana Wright provides what you need to know to take full advantage of cannabis’s potential in your creative work. She begins with the basics―how cannabis grows, how it is ingested, and the nuances of variety―then works through both the history of cannabis usage and all the pertinent details of the plant itself―lineage, strains, appearance, flavor, and the types of high you can experience. Jordana also discusses the neuroscience of cannabis use, including how it affects the brain and how science measures creativity.

The Gift of Shift, Discover the Key Within to Unlock Your Best Life with Ann Papayoti

Ann Papayoti has endured some of life’s most brutal blows—her college best friend deliberately stealing her high school sweetheart; the loss of an infant child just shortly after he was thought to be out of danger, a belligerent and abusive husband, a child born with epilepsy and other neurological disorders, a family suicide, being bitten by a poisonous snake that resulted in months of chronic illness before being diagnosed, relinquishing a cherished foster teen whose actions threatened Ann’s family, and much more… And despite them all, Ann found the gift hidden within each of these experiences. The gift of choice in how to respond to the challenge.

In her new book, The Gift of Shift: Discover the Key Within to Unlock Your Best Life, written with fellow life coach Tracey MacDonald, Ann uses many of these experiences to show how one can open that gift lovingly. Instead of freezing up, becoming resistant or giving in to depression, resignation or other unhealthy emotions, one can choose a better, more life- affirming, adaptable approach that can lead to new possibilities and a better pathway forward.

Trusted Eye: Post-World War II Adventures of a Fearless Art Advocate with Claudia Fontaine Chidester

Trusted Eye is a compelling narrative of an American wife and mother finding her place amid the rubble of war-torn Germany. Virginia Fontaine fought continually for recognition—as a woman, a photographer, an art curator, and, perhaps most importantly, a liaison between beleaguered German artists and the outside world.

Through journals, letters, and photographs, she recorded her uniquely intimate perspective on this period, amid an ever-changing constellation of artists and friends. Virginia Fontaine documented her life from a young age: her struggles at Yale Art School, her year as a newlywed in the British Virgin Islands, and her employment in a munitions factory. Later, she helped the Jewish underground in Europe; traveled with gallerists throughout Germany, Switzerland, and France

Trusted Eye is both a biography and a visual almanac for an intricate slice of the twentieth century.

Walking Thru Grief & Loss in the New Year with Karen V. Johnson JD

Karen Johnson's fast-paced professional life came to an abrupt halt when she lost her twenty-seven-year-old son to a heroin overdose. Rather than grieve in a way that made people around her comfortable, she did the unexpected. She retired, sold her house and all her household goods, and went on a two-and-a-half-year journey that took her all over the world, finding a spiritual practice along the way.

Karen didn't think she could ever find her way out of despair, but she found a process that worked-a sacred journey and map-that she wants to share with others so they can heal too. Karen blends her personal story and meaningful experiences with each direction of the Medicine Wheel, offering exercises related to each of the four practices. Karen V. Johnson is a graduate of Georgetown Law Center (J.D.), a former Fulbright Scholar in Afghanistan, and holds Masters Degrees in Public Health and Public and International Affairs (MPH, MPIA). Karen is a retired federal administrative law judge who practiced criminal and energy law for more than 30 years.

Discovering Twins: no secret is safe forever with Stella Claire Ter Hart

Stella ter Hart stuns readers with a haunting journey through family secrets in this striking debut book. Part memoir and part historical fiction, Stella's account offers an unforgettable mixture of anecdotes, personal memories, genealogy records, and preserved correspondence, all skillfully combined into a moving chronicle of her family’s experience of the Holocaust–a story that, she writes, “must continue to be told to all existing and future generations.” She recounts her parents’ upbringing in Holland during the second World War, as well as their later immigration to Canada, but her focus is on the Jewish family members who were lost–and those left behind.

While Stella never shies away from shocking details she highlights the silver lining of stumbling across her family’s confidences–including finally being able to connect with a distant relative who survived. She leaves readers with the gut-wrenching insight “[h]ow grievous that humans, generally, still seem unable to evolve beyond being the hunter, the hunted, or the watcher,” and anyone intrigued by family histories and uncompromising historical fiction will discover a narrative to remember.
