Welcome back to a new episode of the Black Beans podcast, today's guest is Uncle shark, or your tio tiburón, or also known in Texas El Tiburón. Uncle Shark migrated with his family to the United States when he was eight years old. Uncle Shark sacrificed 4 years to receive his bachelor’s degree of science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Central Washington University. For seven years in Washington State, he worked for a non-profit organization within low-income housing called the Kent Youth and Family Services (KYFS). KYFS has programs like after-school and outreach, which provide recreational, social, academic, and life-skill activities for K-12 youth. Most of the youth in the KYFS program have marginalized identities, which include first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities.

Later he went to the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) and received his Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership. During his time at UNC, nuestro tio tiburón worked as a Graduate Hall Director/ University Apartments Manager. I also interned with Career Services as a Career Counselor. In his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with family/friends, basketball, stand-up comedy, hiking, and breaking down systemic oppression barriers.

The Black Beans took a small road trip and went to Denver. We did not expect this episode to be its own series after recording. This will not be the last podcast we do in Denver for sure. We loved Armani’s personality and love for life as he kept a big smile during the podcast. We love Jack’s inspiration in film, and Ubai’s bond with our cohost will have you laughing!
