Today on Black Box, we sit down with Robert Kerbeck, author of Ruse: Lying the American Dream from Hollywood to Wall Street, which is a detailed memoir about his experience as a corporate spy.
Robert started his career as an actor, initially doing stage performances on Broadway, but then moving out to Los Angeles where he later went on to appear in many shows that we all grew up watching… examples being Melrose Place and NYPD Blue.
As Robert goes on to explain, acting can be a difficult field when you don’t have consistent work, which led to him being recruited by some firms to engage in corporate spying.
Spying started as his side gig for money while he searched for acting jobs, but after some success and his name got around to different corporations, the offers were too good to refuse and he went full time into spying.
