Publisher's Summary:
A collection of short stories from the New York Times bestselling author of the Man Booker-shortlisted, PEN/Faulkner Award-winning novel We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves.
In 1999 Karen Joy Fowler won the World Fantasy Award for Black Glass, a collection of thirteen stories in which she "[Managed] to re-create both life's extraordinary and its ordinary magic" (New York Times Book Review). Now, this previously rare, out-of-print collection is being republished with a fresh package and a new prefatory meditation by the author. Featuring Fowler's characteristic imagination, sly wit, and penetrating insight, Black Glass will be a welcome treat for fans new and old.

All sorts of stories
In this collection, Karen Joy Fowler certainly provides variety. We have, for instance, a story about Albert Einstein and the daughter whose existence recently came to light with a series of letters. There is the science-fiction account of women living in Berkeley in the 1960s, an account that owes more to women's studies than to science fiction. There is the Shirley Jackson-like story of a woman whose son's trivia questions lead her to imagine a scenario that somehow bleeds into real life.
I think the best part of the collection is the variety, but not just the variety in terms of subject matter. The stories are as short as four pages and as long as 50 or more. The forms are varied as well. Some have fairly traditional narration while others vary the form considerably. And throughout, there seems to be a focus on those who don't quite fit in, who exist on the margins. You may not like all 15 stories (I didn't), but if you are a serious reader and enjoy stories that challenge you to think, you're sure to find quite a few here to please you.
Probably really good, but just not my style of stories
Probably really good, but just not my style of stories. I guess I don't really like short stories. I'll have to remember that !
please ignore this review
I.m not a good one to rate this book. It just wasn't my type of subject matter. So I didnt read much of it. The author deserves more than my dis-interested opinion.
Five Stars
I really enjoyed the plot twists and the connections to history.
To me, not very entertaining, or interesting..
Just didn't "get it", for the most part.
