Bad Valentines.

I like this book.

I have had this book on my Kindle for quite so time. It is four tales of "Horror". I put "Horror" because the second one Wetside really wasn't horror. It's heroes were gay weresquids? fighting nazi zombies.Nazi was in the zombies title BUT they didn't do anything really Nazi like... only not really fighting them. It is a very bizarre story and frankly I would read another book with those two guys if I was not on a spending fast. The second story is very silly and light hearted.

I am not going to try and ruin the other three tales of horror. The underlining theme of the first three stories is love. The first tale is of a man trying to keep the sex interesting so his wife won't leave him. It goes bad. The second one as I mention is gay weresquid or maybe gay squid men and they are happy. The third one is love gone way wrong and let us say at the end it is hell in a handbasket time.

Now I like the first three tales. I was disappointed at first there was only three. However Steve Vernon has included an entire story from another book here. This one Catcall was my favorite. It starts at a spooky house with a group of kids staring up at it. It rambles along following

a child's life that has had his share of heartbreak. It reaches the climax and frankly I didn't see it coming. Pay attention. I like stories that make you pay attention.

If I was not focused on saving money, I would probably be rather reading more short stories by Steve Vernon. He has quite a way with words.

A short, entertaining listen

Three short stories, each will leave you thinking after you listen. The first one, Active Reader, just made me cringe in a way that you do when you see a scene in a horror movie, but still love it. Browser, the second was my favorite of the three. It is reminiscent of a Twilight Zone episode and makes you think before ever not finishing a book! And Distraction was just disturbing in a way that you can't help but relate(and of course not take the same actions!). Mark Leslie is an author that I will definitely seek more of, I love the kind of books that peek your interest and leave you with an intelligent, well thought out story.

The choice of Eric Bryan Moore for the narration of this anthology is brilliant. EBM has a voice that can create that air of mystique and horror, making you crawl into the mind of the characters and feel their emotions. He did a spectacular job with these three short stories.

Creepy fun!

This was a collection of 3 short interesting and creepy stories. But, creepy like twilight zone or those late night shows like the hitchhiker. I don't believe I've ever read or listened to anything by Mark Leslie before. But, these stories were creative and fun.

I have, however, listened to Eric Bryan Moore, as he's one of my favorite narrators. And, it was very different than anything I've listened to narrated by him so far. Of course he did an amazing job, surprising me along the way. His characterization of Gus Sherrington was just great! Loved it. These were a lot of fun.

The mad fuck acts out his intoxicated will and gets his karma for fucking with the heartless, cruel and despicable mad, insane, world. He does however have a reason for his madness, since the world and the brainless fucks in it are matter than a hatter.

What a wonderful bully revenge story!

I found this book to not only be inspiring for me but for my children as well. This book had a good clean bully lesson, in which the victim comes out on top. Great voice by the narrator as well! Highly recommend!

Cherish your memories

This is a sentimental tale about the lessons passed from a father to his son. When Billy's father taught him how to trap a he had no idea what a valuable lesson his father was giving him. After his father's death, Billy speaks with his aunt and the conversation brings to light the importance of this passed on knowledge.

I love book's with hidden meanings in them. This one makes you revisit your own childhood and value the wisdom you took for granted as a child. I voluntarily requested a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Not for those who believe in painless death to ani

This is a short story where a father teaches his son Billy how to trap and kill rabbits. Only years later Billy will understand the full meaning of it all.

I always enjoy stories about knowledge passed from old to young generations. I liked the descriptions of the farm where Billys family lived and worked. There is not a lot of character development due to the shortness of the story, but its meaning is quite clear.

I think, though that the story would need to be more polished. I felt there was a long built up and then the end was a bit rushed, without further details about Billys father.

Something I did not enjoy was the explanation about how to kill the rabbits. Basically it was either breaking their neck or beating them to death. Nowadays that we try to promote a dignified life for animals, beating an animal to death is just not something acceptable. Im not a vegetarian, I eat meat, but whenever I can I try to source meat from animals that had a dignified life and the most painless death possible. I understand killing to eat but I just dont understand killing in a way that makes an animal suffer.

James H. Kiser was clear but monotone. He did not inflect any emotion in the dialogs, and all voices sounded the same. It was okay though, but not something that made the story more enjoyable.

A great little short story. Well worth a listen. I found the narrator a tad monotone so it wasnt my favorite. But still I loved the story.

Really Sweet..

A rose that represents a son's love and respect for his mother. Told with few words, it's still a reminder that our family is always alive in our hearts and memories. Sweet and emotional

This is a very sweet short story dealing with the grief of loosing a parent. It's powerfully emotive and enjoyable to listen to.

The narration is a good match for the story and helps to convey the emotion of the story.

A Bit Different Than Other Books by This Author A+

Robert Allman is traveling to church with his family on Mother's Day. He is sent into the store to buy flowers and some candy at the direction of his wife and son. I cannot elaborate any further without spoiling the story for potential listeners.

This was a nice little story, but not Jones' best, in my opinion. I've had the opportunity to listen to 3 of them thus far.

Eva R Marienchild gave a solid performance. The story was so short that I didn't really have enough material to elaborate further.

So far, the short stories are entertaining. Perhaps the publisher should put all of Jones' stories into one collection.

Beautiful story but not the best format

A family goes to church by mothers day but they stop in their way to buy a rose for each one. A red rose means their mother is still alive, while a white one means she has passed away. A red rose instead a white one brings a wonderful surprise.

This is a beautiful tale about love and homesickness. The characters are not fully developed but the way they are pictured works well for the story. I think a longer and more elaborate book would have better served the plot, since like it is right now it seems just a draft.

Eva R. Marienchild delivered a very good narration, expressing the right amount of emotion at every time and with a different voice for each character. It helped to bring the characters to life and improve the story.
