Lovely funny tale!

Most amusing! The Pope hands the reigns of the church to The Devil for 12 hours.... amusing - if you can get past the appalling narration!

A Dog Called Hope is a touching and heartwarming novella of 49 pages from the best-selling author of A Weekend with Mr. Darcy and Wish You Were Here.

Members Reviews:

Sweet, little story

Really enjoyed this little story. The narrator was very clear and easy to understand and her voice was likeable. A wonderful story of an abandoned dog bringing new hope to a grieving family. Enjoying listening to audio books, it's relaxing and entertaining at the same time. Would recommend this audiobook for all ages even young adults who sometimes struggle to pick a book up.

Hope a wonderful short story

Loved it , just wish it was longer , I'll just have to read it again.

Very moving it so very short

loved it but just as I was getting into it and it was the end what a shame the author couldn't have made I chapters a little longer

Good Book

Where does A Dog Called Hope rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Not at the top and not at the bottom, about in the middle.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

When Hope puts her head on Dad's knee and let's him know she is there for him.

Any additional comments?

No

Short and sweet

I enjoy Ms Connelly's work as a rule and this was no exception. It is a short listen and can be scoffed in an hour or so.

I really liked the way the love story this time involved a man and a dog rather than a man and a woman. I also enjoyed the depiction of Alfie's home and village. It made me want to walk along the riverbank with him. Alfie and Hope are both such lovable characters.

I recommend this story for a relaxing hour of escapism (especially if you love animals)

Length: 1 hr and 33 mins

Language: English

Release date: 02-10-15

Publisher: Audible Studios

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 12 votes

Publisher's Summary:

As if it's not crazy enough inside the trailer, Marfa has to deal with the other eccentrics who populate the park, from the runaway polygs stockpiling water for the end of the world to the man who hears from extraterrestials through V8 cans to the domineering Don Ella, who runs the park with an iron fist and attendance-mandatory parties. Marfa dreams of a new life on her own outside Flagstaff, but first she'll have to let go of her old one.

Helen Childress wrote the movie Reality Bites. She is a seventh-generation Texan.

Ordinary People Hang Tough

Old Girls in Low Cotton is a short, compelling read about two women trying to make a life for themselves in a situation that is less than ideal. They are crowded, short of money, and short of patience with each other but will not give up the idea that life can be and will be full if they can hang on long enough to get through every day, every week and every challenge.

The prose is excellent. The author has narrative skills that allow her to tell her story wihtout the glue of profane language.

For readers who know that life is pretty much about routines, household highs like a good meal and household disasters like a hot water heater leak, this book is an affirmation that "life will find a way." It is well worth reading.

wonderful ...what there was of it

Helen Childress is a wonderful writer and has great characters. It is about 2 old women who live in a trailer park and try to live together in peace, but anyone knows 2 women cannot live in the same house. It was just getting interesting, then the book ended. I wished she had expanded on it.

fun to read

The story is about two women who shouldn't ever live together. Some how they manage to survive each other and support each other. I want more! Please continue this story.

Can people who buy books read? Reviews would suggest not.

This product is listed as a Kindle ___SINGLE____!! Do people even bother to read descriptions (it says estimated length = 42 pages!! in TWO PLACES on the product page) or understand terms?? Kindle SINGLE means SHORT STORY. I am so sick to death of Amazon reviews all over the place where people berate short stories for being SHORT STORIES. If you don't like SHORT STORIES, don't buy a SHORT STORY. And if you do, don't criticize a SHORT STORY for not being a NOVEL. It's not Amazon's fault or the author's fault that you can't be bothered to read the description of an item. One assumes that since you're buying something written that you are literate. But it would seem not. Short stories are a valid form of writing, just because Indie publishing has everyone thinking every NOVEL should only cost two bucks doesn't mean everything that costs two bucks is a novel. READ. THE. PRODUCT. DESCRIPTION.

I couldn't put it down

A very good read!! I am an avid reader and found this really entertaining and hilarious!! I love the characters, LuLu & Marfa!. I hope there is a sequel to this.

Pairing of Two Authors Attract Readers

I bought this because of the authors. It was not my usual genre since dragons have not been my favorite except when in Harry Potter. Anyway, I listened with an open mind and did enjoy the story. I am glad it was a short story and not the beginning of a series. I will try another of Sam Sykes' books. I already have read and re-read all of Diana Gabaldon's works.

Beautifully Read! In the vein of slam poetry.

This is a well written poem read by Ice T, who proves at every turn just how truly talented he is. I am eager to hear more narrations by him.
