This episode highlights the life and importance of Henretta Lacks.  She was the carrier of the HeLa gene, one of the most important genes in modern medicine.  History continues to show that Black people have been witting and unwitting contributors to American history.  

The Dred Scott decision of 1857 spurred America to settle the topic of whether people of African descent would be granted citizenship.  While the court got it wrong, legislation would be passed to get it right and confer citizenship status and other equal protection rights.

In the early 1900s, Black Wall Street was one of the most commercially successful African American communities in America, Until it was destroyed by a white mob in 1921.
