We wind up Black History month with a look at the career and music of one of the swingingest drummer during the 1930s, Chick Webb. His band was the house band at Harlem's Savoy ballroom. It was there that his band was the victor over other bands, including Benny Goodman's, in a battle of the band contest. It was a wonder that Chick played as well as did considering that he had an ailment that would keep lesser men sidelined. I've picked several of the Webb orchestra's hits so I enjoy the music as there are a lot of great songs in this program. Please visit this podcast at http://bigbandbashfm.blogspot.com
