This is a re-broadcast from Torture Survivors Speak. One of the group members discussed his experiences of being on the sex offender registry. He was 15 years old at the time of the offense and is now 41 years old. His focus was on the injustice of treating all people convicted of being an offender in the same way regardless of the offense. This conviction has followed him throughout his life and as a husband and father it burdens their lives as well.

Every citizen has "equal protection under the law" according to the 14th amendment of the US constitution. This amendment prevents discrimination of US citizens based on their immutable characteristics such as race, gender or having a disability. Does this apply to returning citizens released from jails or prisons? Black Men's Friday addresses the issues that impact black men and the black community. Equal protection against discrimination does not apply to those that have been convicted of a felony.
