Scientific research shows that stressors that impact Black Americans are chronic and repeated through their whole life course. The term "Weathering" is a metaphor, first to illustrate the sense of physical erosion by constant stress. But also, "Weathering" describes the ways that the Black Community has coped with the constant drumbeat of big and small stressors that has marked their lives. Both definitions; making it through a difficult experience, along with being damaged in the process has had a devastating effect on the health vulnerability of Black Americans.
