On this episode, we discuss infertility, a topic we tend to shy away from as Black women and in community conversations.
We discuss infertility, IVF, creating supportive environments for Black women experiencing infertility, infertility resources or support communities for Black women, and what self-care through IVF.
About our guest:
JoAnna Pendergrass, DVM, is a veterinarian and freelance medical writer. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology from Hampton University, then earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
JoAnna is the founder and owner of JPen Communications, a medical communications company. Through her writing, she strives to close the gap between what the veterinarian says and what the pet parent understands. Her mission is to equip pet parents with the information they need to make good health decisions for their pets.
JoAnna and her husband are the proud parents of their infant son, Karl. They endured several years of infertility, experiencing two miscarriages and undergoing several rounds of IVF.
JoAnna’s infertility journey profoundly affected her. She is passionate about sharing her journey and doing her part to break the shame, silence, and stigma surrounding infertility, especially among Black women.
