It is not a surprise that Synthwave music, with its romanticised retro futuristic sounds, would show its greatest expansion and transformation in a time when the need for a distraction from reality is at its highest.

The wider retro culture and visual aesthetic of Synthwave feels almost as important as the music itself.

Repetition and escalation are key ingredients in establishing a mood, and arpeggio covers both bases, with the melody steadily evolving via note by note progression. This is especially true of tense and suspenseful situations, where danger is immediately present or possibly lurking behind a shadowy corner.

Singer/guitarist/songwriter Eric Blowtorch sings, plays, and writes reggae, ska, rocksteady, soul, rock 'n' roll, funk, Latin, disco, hip-hop, Anglo-Afropop, and jazz songs with rhythm, melody, passion, and original comic timing.

Eric has been connected with Joe Strummer, Adrian Sherwood, Jerry Dammers and Linton Kwesi Johnson and also collaborated with a lot of music artists, the likes of Horace Andy, U-Roy, Big Youth, Fishbone, Roland Alphonso, Prince Jazzbo and performed with The Welders, The Forces Of Victory and The Bodyguards.

Blowtorch releases music through his own label Bopaganda Records, but is also putting out music and vinyl through Simmerdown Productions and Fe True Records.

On Everyday Is Halloween we discussed about his trips to Jamaica, his friendship with Joe Strummer, his punk rock beginnings and his passion for books written by Jamaican authors.

We can only feel enlightened by the magic of Dub music worldwide and fully perceiving the sonic perspective behind it. This is very much the case of London based music producer/solo artist Gaudi, which with his career spanning over three decades, experimenting with electronic music, reggae, psychedelic, dub and world-music, is certainly one of the most innovative music visionaries in his field.

“Skip” is the first collaboration between Romanian producer Silent Strike and singer-songwriter Lucia and it is permeated by Tricky’s dense vocal presence. The song reflects Eastern European moods such as latent anger, innocence and fragility.

The single is released on False Idols, the record label created and curated by forward-thinking music innovator British artist Tricky of Bristol fame.

Mark Stewart the host of Devils Jukebox is one of Tricky's mates and was one of his collaborators. Befriending Mark Stewart since he was in school it was with the push of The Pop Group's frontman that Tricky got to dive deeper into what would become known Bristol sound: The Wild Bunch collective, Smith & Mighty, Massive Attack and the Maxinequaye debut album. Now on Black Rhino Radio, based in Bucharest, we get to exclusively premiere an interview with the first Romanian singer-songwriter to collaborate with Tricky, Lucia.
