I am changing the content of this podcast.

I believe that quality, long form white noise is helpful to many and I am happy to continue to provide what I can.

However it is disingenuous for me to only post this.

I have been considering the purpose of something like white noise. I use it to put my children to sleep and it works very well. In their case I believe what they are receiving is a "Turning on" of what would naturally be experienced by any creature on earth. Nature sounds and static natural noise sooth people because it is a return to a normal state.

However, for myself and many others I believe these sounds serve the opposite purpose.

When I use white noise, I am not trying to turn on naturally occurring sounds that I would be biologically accustomed to. I am trying to turn off my inner dialogue.

I think that many people have been unknowingly exposed to traumas that replay in our heads constantly. Disappointments, past mistakes and regrets unrelentingly play in our minds and we need something to turn those voices off.

At first, I was trying to supply these sounds to help people have a calm life. But as I make and post these sounds I hear an alarm ringing in my head telling me that I am ignoring what is actually going on: I am formulating audible experiences to help myself escape my own head and sharing them.

After coming to this realization I stopped posting. However, I came to a secondary realization: it is possible to be aware and comment on what I'm doing.

Art is often the product of a secondary expression of an experience. However, the most modern audience is tired of secondary expressions. I know I am.

As of now, the most useful content is first hand expression of exactly what the creator is feeling and what they are going through, but, expressed in an artful way.

So, I hope to continue to post quality, long form white noise. But, I also want to release criticisms on those sounds and supply context for why I made the sounds that I release.

September 20, 2022 The Reason Her and I Can't Connect...
Full transcript:

The reason Her and I can't connect to each other in a very deep way is because both of us have made a survival technique out of not caring for people.

The only way to connect to a person deeply is to accept and allow the inevitable pain of losing them.

Her and I can't stand the idea of taking that much emotional pain. So we develop a distant enough relationship so that we have support and help, but we're still avoiding the crosshair of losing someone who we love so much that we seriously can't live without them.

When She was a kid and realized that she couldn't depend on people to be there for her she was alarmed, scared, became insecure, and undoubtedly felt like the feeling of rejection, insecurity and loneliness could get worse. And to defend herself from this pain (which her particularly sensitive nature couldn't endure) she adopted a method of not caring about people and being cold so that she be sure she wouldn't have to suffer the pain of losing (or especially being left by) someone who was very significant to her.

I as well developed a technique of defending myself from losing loved ones by practically not caring about them because I had to emotionally prepare myself to lose my sister when I was 16-17. That pain and method was further reinforced when Jessie treated me so painfully.
