Fran is stalling from her verbal beatdown of insults from her judgmental Nigerian family. They have a witty but direct way of letting her know she’s not living up to the standards of her cousin Abby and the perfect life Abby has made for herself. Annie tries to be Fran’s “emotional support animal” but she may need the emotional support after defending her relationship with Ryan to Lamar and resisting his body as they share a bed together. Fran and her mother, Iyawa, have a moment of understanding and grace for one another as they make it clear that they both have good intentions for their non-conforming mother-daughter roles.
