New York Daily News is reporting that two Queens men cleared by a security video of bogus drug charges are settling with the city of New York for $300,000. The two cops accused of setting them up, Detective Stephen Anderson and Officer Henry Tavarez have resigned and face a number of corruption charges related to setting up brothers Jose Colon and Maximo Colon who lost their grocery store business and incurred substantial debt directly resulting from the criminal drug case fabricated against them by the NYPD narcotics officers.

New America Media is reporting that California is the first state setting up a health insurance market. Individuals and small businesses can now buy affordable health coverage through an online exchange which is a component of the new health care reform act enacted by Congress earlier this year. The insurance exchange will allow consumers to compare and buy plans from five different categories ranging from so-called “Cadillac” plans to more modest policies.

The Bowen family and Nicole's attorney will be on tonight to share the details about what happened Friday in the courtroom which obviously resulted in Nicole Dunson Bowen being set free from a Florida jail cell.

Judge Stacy Glick gave every indication that she was going to uphold the harsh sentence she issued which was over and above what was recommended, however something obviously changed her mind and she ordered Mrs. Bowen released.

Many concerned citizens wrote letters, made phone calls and was able to get the mainstream media to send camera crews to cover this hearing. This case is an example about the successes Internet based media campaigns can have in informing people and calling them to action. Will also address issues with an Miami Herald print article written by David Dovalle which was full of inaccurate information and took a negative tone towards Mrs. Dunson.

Major Neill Franklin is a 33-year law enforcement veteran of both the Maryland State Police and Baltimore Police forces and now he is the Executive Director of LEAP.

His career has not only spanned three decades, but he’s been promoted and recruited so many times that he jokes, “Every time I turned around, I was in a new position.” He worked the streets. He investigated. He supervised and trained others. Neill oversaw 17 drug task forces, and he instituted and directed the very first Domestic Violence Investigative Units for the Maryland State Police.

Early in his career, Neill served as a narcotics agent with the Maryland State police, focusing on everything from high-level drug dealers in the Washington suburbs to that guy growing one pot plant on his apartment balcony. Neill was proud of his work and proud of the hundreds of arrests he executed. “I had been taught that the people who use and sell drugs are trash, and that we needed to put those people behind bars forever.” Now Mr. Franklin says it is time to end the "Drug War" and he joins host Scotty Reid to discuss California's Proposition 19 which is approved by voters will legalize, regulate and tax marijuana.

Carl Horowitz who works for the conservative National Legal and Policy Center, along with Tea Party conservatives are mounting a campaign of deception to manufacture outrage and paint a distorted picture that the Obama administration and the Justice Department is somehow trying to assist Black Farmers in defrauding U.S. Tax payers or at the very least not interested in pursuing cases of fraud against Black farmers.

Never mind the fact that further investigation would be redundant, it is similar to the disinformation being put out by the right wing political propaganda machine that is not shy in heavily using the race card to mobilize voters to support extremist right wing candidates who are mounting an insurgency against the RNC which coincidentally is headed by its first ever elected African American, Michael Steele.

Tonight we are joined by Mark Clements who is a part of the organization No More Death Penalty. We will discuss several cases where people have been put to death because of mistakes or criminal misconduct in police crime labs and why the death penalty should be abolished.

Mark Clements was tortured by Chicago Police when he was just 16 yrs old in 1981 in order to obtain a false confession. Mr. Clements was present earlier this year at the trial of former Chicago cop, Lt. Jon Burge who was convicted for lying about alleged torture in a lawsuit filed by former death row inmate Madison Hobley, who was sentenced to death for a 1987 fire that killed seven people, including his wife and son, and pardoned by Governor Ryan. Burge will be sentenced this year and faces a possible 45 years in prison. Read more.
