We'll discuss his 2014 offering, The Price of Silence: The Duke Lacrosse Scandal - which explores the controversial 2006 charges that several White players from the Duke Lacrosse team raped a black female dancer. All charges were eventually dismissed and all Duke players were declared innocent of any sexual misconduct. Evidence showed that prosecuting attorney Mike Nifong conspired to conceal exculpatory evidence and willfully lied to pursue a conviction. Nifong was eventually disbarred, convicted of contempt, and forced to serve a day in prison for his misconduct in this case. Gus recently learned about Darryl Howard, a black male who served 23 years in a North Carolina cage for a double murder he did not commit. Nifong prosecuted Howard in this case and is accused of helping to convict an innocent black male. His substance dependency may help explain his sordid imagination and focus on alternate worlds. During last week's session, Childan learned that some of his rare firearms are inauthentic. Gus thinks this is an important Welsing moment as the "great equalizers" are fraudulent. Characters discuss the pending death of Adolph Hitler and speculate about his successor. Dick provides a lengthy list of authentic Nazi party members - including Joseph Goebbels, Baldur von Schirach, Herr Reinhard Heydrich and others. Some of these White Men were prosecuted and executed for war crimes. Both of our first two sections on the text feature brief commentary about the German campaign to exterminate all Negroes in Africa. North of the border, White protests over Covid-19 restrictions have thrusts the province of Ontario into a state of emergency. Nazi Germany and Japan divide the U.S. and rule their respective chunk of the continent. Whites in the U.S. describe being unable to protect White Women, Dick writes about forty-year-olds working as strippers. White Men hate their low lot in life, and especially resent having "asian" people dominate them. US Whites take pride in the accomplishments of White Germans and highlight the inferiority of the asian space program. The novel also points out the German "solution" for the African continent. Total extermination.
