    https://youtu.be/1ZZVOLVKhVo

In this episode of BTR News, Scotty reflects on the historic movement against oppression. As stores and a police precinct burns in Minneapolis, as freedom fighters confront police in Louisville, as voters contemplate not voting for Trump or Joe Biden in the 2020 elections, as opinions are formed about these actions I think it is important to view these issues within a historical context.

  • BTR News: Several People Reportedly Shot Protesting Killing of Breonna Taylor By Police
    https://youtu.be/CxRjgROx4hM

Reuters is reporting that seven people have been shot participating in standoffs with Louisville police that occurred the night of a protest demanding justice for Breonna Taylor who was killed in her home after detectives executed a questionable no-knock drug warrant late at night.

No knock warrants are when law enforcement breaks into a home without knocking and these interactions can and do lead to killings that might otherwise be avoided. Taylor and her boyfriend Kenneth Walker who were both in bed when awakened by the intruders were not targets of the warrant and the main suspect was apprehended prior to the officers going to Taylor's home.

According to experts and jurors in other cases, Walker was within his rights under Kentucky's Stand Your Ground Laws to use deadly force against non-uniformed cops he took for criminal home invaders, non-uniformed cops who according to several witnesses did not announce themselves, which is standard procedure in executing a no-knock warrant. Walker has been freed from jail but is still being charged with attempted murder.

It also appears the cops lied to obtain the no-knock warrant according to reports.

In a video published by Reuters, during the standoff, outraged protesters can be heard chanting "Whose Streets? Our Streets". One of the seven reportedly shot is in critical condition. It is assumed that police fired the shots that struck the protestors but it can not be confirmed at this moment although it is likely.

  • BTR News: Amy Cooper’s Bid To Terrorize Black Man With Police Fails
By Scotty T. Reid - A white woman in Central Park attempted to lynch a Black man by police because he dared to challenge her violation of park rules that required her to leash her dog that she was allowing to run free without restraint.

Christian Cooper, says he was bird watching in a wooded area of Central Park called the Ramble when he says he saw a dog off its leash that belonged to Amy Cooper, a white woman who is no relation to Christian who is a Black man.

"That's important to us birders because we know that dogs won't be off-leash at all and we can go there to see the ground-dwelling birds," Christian Cooper said. "People spend a lot of money and time planting in those areas as well. Nothing grows in a dog run for a reason."

Mr. Cooper began to film the exchange when Amy Cooper refused to leash her dog knowing as she admitted later to the press, it was against park rules, while accusing him of throwing dog treats at the dog which he denied.

The video begins with Amy Cooper pulling on her dog by the collar and telling Christian Cooper to stop recording her which is legal to do in public spaces.

"Please don't come close to me," Christian Cooper says, as Amy Cooper approaches him.

"Sir, I'm asking you to stop recording me," Amy Cooper says. That's when Amy Cooper says she's going to call the police. "I'm going to tell them there's an African American man threatening my life," she says.

"Please tell them whatever you like," Christian Cooper says. Amy Cooper is heard on her phone in the video lying to the police dispatcher.

"There's a man, African American, he has a bicycle helmet," she says. "He is recording me and threatening me and my dog." "I'm being threatened by a man in the Ramble," she continues in an audibly distraught voice. "Please send the cops immediately!"

Now Amy Cooper is apologizing after the video of the encounter started circulating on social media claiming she isn't a racist and would like to publicly apologize. She has been placed on administrative leave by her employer which is conducting an investigation into the incident.

According to Lawyers.com, "In New York, making a false report is a criminal offense under NY PL 240.50, 240.55, and 240.60. It can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony and is punishable by up to one year in jail and as much as up to seven years in state prison.".

Amy Cooper and Christian Cooper had both left the area before police arrived. Police chalked it up to two people having a verbal disagreement but made no mention of holding Amy Cooper accountable for her false report which can and has resulted in the false arrests, wrongful convictions, and sometimes the deaths of Black men when falsely accused by white women in the United States. Thankfully today, Black men can have some measure of protection from false reports by recording these interactions but there is no guarantees that will even save them from being killed by police or winding up on a prison slavery plantation.

  • BTR News: Minneapolis Police Murder Man Caught On Film Begging For His Life
A 40 something-year-old Black man who has yet to be identified was apparently murdered by Minneapolis police responding to a call about fraudulent economic activity at a local shop on Monday night. The man was sitting in his car when police believing he matched the description of the suspect who allegedly tried to engage in a financial transaction with allegedly forged documents when ordering him to exit the vehicle. Police claim there was a struggle but when the video starts, the man is pinned on the ground at the rear of a police vehicle and no longer resisting but begging for his life telling officers he "can't breathe". The video goes on for more than 10 minutes as the man finally loses consciousness and one of the officers continues to use his knee to put pressure on the man's neck.

A bystander who posted a video of the encounter on Facebook, along with other bystanders pleaded for the police to allow the man to breathe and to take the knee off the man's neck who was clearly in distress. One bystander, who claimed to have trained at the police academy said that the police seem to be enjoying what they were doing. One officer seemed to be threatening the concerned citizens who were become very agitated by the officer's actions and clear disregard for the man's life who would later be taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where he died a short time later.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has joined the FBI in its investigation. All body camera footage has been turned over to the BCA, which investigates most police shootings and in-custody deaths.

Update: Victim has been identified as George Floyd.
