In light of National Infertility Week ,  I felt that it was important to talk about infertility in the Black Women Community. I know personally that I am not knowledgeable about infertility and because we don’t talk about it. It’s such a delicate subject. So I felt it was important to have a Black woman come to the chair to talk about infertility.

In the guest chair today, on a special episode called Owning Our Truths,  I brought Stacey Brown. Stacey Brown was diagnosed at the young age of 25 with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser. MRKH syndrome is a disorder that occurs in females and mainly affects the reproductive system. This condition causes the vagina and uterus to be underdeveloped or absent, although external genitalia are normal. Which means a woman cannot get pregnant and will deal with infertility.

Today in the chair we have Kanani Young, who goes by Nani, started her Event Management and Coordinating Experience as a Special Events Coordinator at one of the largest Wedding/Conference Centers in San Diego, California.

After years of experience with weddings and special events, a need for a coordinator was one problem for clients she wanted to help resolve; from a venue standpoint. Once discovering the love for weddings, people, and event coordinating, Nani Events was born in May of 2011.

Since then, Nani Events has expanded Coordinating Services to the state of Arizona, established a banquet hall in La Mesa, Ca., and recently added another company under the Corporation called Marry Me SD (a company that provides beautiful proposals set-ups with Marquee Letters and decor). The future of Nani Events is to establish an all-inclusive Luxury Venue in San Diego, California, In hopes of employing her family to pass down for generations to come.

Today in the chair we have Raven Hanks. Raven Hanks is a health and wellness coach from Chicago IL. currently residing in Houston Texas.  She had an opportunity to find her passion for helping others about 2 years when she began sharing her own weight loss journey on social media.

Being uncomfortable about her weight she decided to make some lifestyle changes. It started with working out but ultimately required a change in her nutrition. She found a meal that was simple and easy to follow and continued to incorporate fitness.  She was able to drop over 40lbs, gain her confidence back, and now showing  others how to do the same.

Raven has also launched a residential nutrition club “RR Nutrition” serving protein shakes, lit energy teas, and healthy donuts & waffles.
