As we, at WGN Radio, prepare to welcome the Chicago Blackhawks into the “Century Club,” we are celebrating Chicago’s Original 6 hockey organization by highlighting over 100 players, coaches, executives, broadcasters and personalities that have been a part of Blackhawks’ 100-year history. Elmer “Moose” Vasko played in 786 regular season NHL games, including 651 over 10 seasons with the Blackhawks. Vasko was a member of the 1961 Stanley Cup Championship team, where he was paired on defense with Pierre Pilote. At 6’3” he was considered a large player in his time. Fans likened his up-ice charges to that of a “Moose,” hence the nickname. Vasko retired from the NHL in 1970.
