Lori Cope, director of CASA (the Court-Appointed Special Advocates for foster children) in Hunt County, says June is National Reunification Month , promoting the reunification of foster children with their original parents. Lori says almost half of children placed in foster care eventually are reunited with the parents, and well over half are either reunited with their parents or placed with a relative. Commerce ISD superintendent Charlie Alderman says the state legislature provided full funding of the state's public schools in the session that ended last week, meaning no budget cuts will be necessary. The superintendent says he is disappointed by the "controversial topics" bill, which will discourage teachers from teaching critical-race theory in their classes. He says that should be left to teachers, administrators and school boards to decide.

Wayne Bowman, Hunt County Master Gardener , says most garden crops will eventually recover from the heavy rainfall we've had over the past several weeks, although he says he's seen tomato plants turning yellow and suffering from the wet ground. Wayne says the Master Gardeners will soon be recruiting new members with a training program available in the fall. And Wayne says gardening provides individuals with more than enough excercise to stay in good shape.

Pud Kearns with Housewarmers of Greenville says the Greenville Police Department will host the annual Officer David Dickson Fishin' Friday from 9 a.m. to noon Friday (June 4) at the Graham Park lake in north Greeville. Fishing equipment, bait and hot dogs will be provided. Pud says the theme of this year's Bras for the Cause, Thursday, Oct. 14 will be "Brastalgia," with artful bras submtited representing every decade since the 1920s.

Commerce ISD supintendent Charlie Alderman says the school board will create a steering committee to study calling bond election to finance the construction of a new Commerce Middle School. The current middle school was originally the Commerce High School building and was opened n 1968. The decision to have a bond election this fall must be made by mid-August. Gene Toohey, adjutant of American Legion Otho Morgan Post 17 in Greenville, says members of the post will gather around the flag pole at their building at 4509 Moulton Street near I-30 at 11 a.m. today to honor fallen vets and then enjoy each others' company. Also, they place up to 2,500 flags on veterans' graves in the Greenville area each year. Gene says the post still has 22 members who are veterans of World War II.
