Derek Price, writer of the nationally syndicated "Cargazing" column that appears in the Herald-Banner, says he has lost 100 pounds thanks in part to a treadmill desk he installed in his office. It's similar to a "standing desk," but with a treadmill. He says he walks about eight miles a day while he does his work. Derek also discusses the trend of a very wide dashboard digital screens in new cars.

Sharon Feldt of Sulphur Springs, our books commentator, says regional author James R. Callan third "Father Frank" mystery is set in Northeast Texas, at locations that will be familiar to many readers. The novel, "A Plot for Murder: Murder at the Writer's Conference," will be officially released on Feb. 2. Callan has been a frequent speaker at the Silver Leos writers' group's meetings at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Carol Taylor , chairman of the Hunt County Historical Commission , created a tour of north Greenville for the city's 145th anniversary in 1991, and now, as Hunt County nears its 175th birthday, she's revisiting her tour to see how downtown and the residential area to the north have changed. Downtown Greenville and the north Greenville area comprise most of the original townsite of the city.

Alice Reese, Herald-Banner movie critic, "Mank," the biography of 1930s and '40s Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz is worthy of Oscar consideration. Mankiewicz wrote the script for what many critics say is the greatest movie of all time, "Citizen Kane." Alice also reviews the Indian film, "White Tiger."

Commerce Mayor Wyman Williams says the City Council met together in the council chambers for the first time since last March Tuesday night, and City Hall is now partially open for meetings by appointment. The council this week has a further discussion about possbly using hotel occupancy taxes, as allowed by the state of Texas, to build a hotel and convention center on Texas A&M-Commerce property south of the CVS pharmacy.
