Commerce Mayor Wyman Williams says the City Council has approved a new housing development to be constructed east of Farm Road 3218 near the Commerce Elementary School.

Lori Cope, the executive director of CASA (the Court-Appointed Special Advocates) of Hunt County says the organization received $17,000 in contributions from the North Texas Giving Day last year, and hopes to do at least as well this year.

Texas A&M-Commerce Athletic Director Tim McMurray says the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) rules recently passed by the NCAA will allow A&M-Commerce and other Lone Star Conference and Division 2 athletes to make money on their social-media accounts that sometimes have nothing to do with athletics. He says that Texas universities have agreed to "guardrails" that will place the athletic programs on an even footing.

Sarah Latham, Rains County Agrilife Extension Agent, says army worms (caterpillars that will grow into moths) are causing considerable damage on Northeast Texas pastures and lawns. She says if you see three or more army worms per square foot, you should start treatment of the lawn or pasture immediately. Aphids are also causing problems for many plants.

Carol Taylor, chairman of the Hunt County Historical Commission, has been involved with the commission for 41 years, since 1980. The commission investigates historical places and events, and helps others in research that is required by the Texas Historical Commission for state markers.
