Are you really saved? That's an uncomfortable question; but it may be the most important question we ever answer.

In James 2:14–26, James challenges the idea that simply believing the right things about God is the same as saving faith. Even the demons believe. Genuine biblical faith means entrusting our lives fully to Jesus—and when that faith is alive, it produces evidence.

Works aren't the root of salvation; they're the fruit of salvation. Saving faith is available to anyone who will entrust their life to Jesus, and saving faith changes the way we live.

In James 2:1–13, James challenges believers to examine how our faith affects the way we see, value, love, and treat people. Rather than judging people by outward appearances, status, or what they can offer us, we are called to see every person as made in the image of God, love our neighbor as ourselves, and let mercy have the final word. Because we have received the grace, love, and mercy of Jesus, we should freely extend them to others. Mercy triumphed in our story, so mercy should change the way we treat theirs.

Where does temptation really come from? In James 1:13–18, James challenges our tendency to blame God, our circumstances, or other people for the choices we make. Instead, he reveals that temptation often begins within our own desires, luring us toward something that promises life but ultimately produces death.

But James doesn't leave us without hope. While our desires can deceive us, every good and perfect gift comes from a Father who is completely good and never changes. Through the gospel, God has given us new birth and real life.

What if the trial you’re trying to escape is actually an opportunity for God to mature you?

In Part 1 of Live It Out, we begin our verse-by-verse journey through James with James 1:1–12. James tells us to “consider it pure joy” when we face trials, not because trials feel good, but because God can use them to produce perseverance and maturity in us.

But we have a choice to let perseverance finish its work. In this message, we look at three obstacles that can pull us away from trusting God in a trial: confusion, doubt, and status. When we don’t understand, we can ask God for wisdom. When we begin to waver, we can anchor ourselves in His presence. And when we’re tempted to trust what we have, we can remember that our true security is found in Christ.

Don’t waste the trial. God can use what is happening to you to produce something in you.

For nine weeks, we’ve explored what it means to live the "good life"—not by accumulating more, but by becoming more like Jesus. In our final message of the series, we tackle the fruit of the Spirit self-control. Our culture tells us to follow every impulse and never say no to our desires. When we do try to change, we rely on "white-knuckle" willpower, which always eventually fails. But biblical self-control isn't about trying harder to manage your behavior; it’s about surrendering your life to the Holy Spirit. Today, we'll discover how true freedom isn't found in doing whatever we want, but in yielding to the One who knows what we truly need.

What does true gentleness look like? In The Fruit of Gentleness, we learn that biblical gentleness is not weakness. It is strength under God’s control. The Holy Spirit produces this fruit in us, helping us respond to conflict with grace, choose restoration over retaliation, and reflect the character of Jesus. What does it really mean to be faithful? In Part 7 of The Good Life, we discover that faithfulness is more than believing in God—it’s continuing to trust Him through every season. Through the life of Joseph, we’ll see how faithfulness chooses conviction in temptation, commitment in disappointment, and character in opportunity. Our circumstances may change, but God’s faithfulness never does. Faith says, “God, I trust You.” Faithfulness says, “God, I still trust You.”

Goodness is more than doing good things—it is becoming the kind of person whose character reflects the goodness of God. Through the story of the rich young ruler, Jesus reveals that goodness is not measured by comparison or achieved through moral effort, but is found in God's perfect character. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus accomplished what we never could, offering us forgiveness, new life, and the gift of His Holy Spirit. As we follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit transforms us from the inside out, producing a life that increasingly reflects the goodness of God for the benefit of others.

When the Bible talks about the fruit of the Spirit, patience isn't simply learning to wait longer. It's learning to have a longer fuse. In this message, we discover that biblical patience is the Spirit-produced ability to absorb an offense without retaliation. As we experience God's incredible patience toward us, our hearts begin to change, making forgiveness possible and transforming the way we respond to the people who hurt us.
