I am your shield, your exceed-ingly great reward.” But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!” And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.DevotionPrayerHymn 364 - O For a Faith That Will Not Shrink (View): vv. 5 & 6BlessingPostludeService Participants: Rev. And to the one who knocks it will be opened.” “What father among you, if your son asks for bread, would give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, would give him a snake instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, would give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” DevotionPrayerHymn 385 - What a Friend We Have in Jesus (View)BlessingPostludeService Participants: Rev. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. May 06, 2024Chapel - Monday, May 6, 2024Order of Service:PreludeThe Third Article: Sanctification (p. 32): I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. What does this mean? I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ. This is most certainly true.Hymn 1 - Blessed Jesus, At Thy Word (View)Romans 8:26-27: Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.DevotionPrayerHymn 37 - We All Believe in One True God (View)BlessingPostludeService Participants: Chaplain Don Moldstad (Preacher), Joel Hermanson (Organist)...more22minPlay
May 03, 2024Chapel - Friday, May 3, 2024Order of Service:PreludeHymn 378 - Dear Christians, One and All, Rejoice (View): vv. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6Acts 18:5-11: When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them, “Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” And he departed from there and entered the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue. Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized. Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.” And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.DevotionThe Earth Adorned (Psalm of Summer / Waldemar Åhlén): The earth adorned in verdant robe sends praises upward surging, While soft winds breathe on fragrant flow’rs from winter now emerging. The sunshine bright gives warmth and light to budding blossoms tender, proclaiming summer splendor. From out the wood, the birds now sing and each its song now raises, To join with all the universe in voicing thankful praises. With hope and joy, their songs employ a rapturous exaltation in praise of God’s creation. Men du, o Gud, som gör vår jord så skön i sommarns stunder, Giv, att jag aktar främst ditt ord och dina nådesunder. Allt kött är hö och blomstren dö, och tiden allt fördriver; Blott Herrens ord förbliver. O God, amid these joys of life, creation’s glory beaming, Grant us the grace to keep your Word and live in love redeeming. All flesh is grass, the flowers fade, and time is fleeting ever; God’s Word remains forever. May 02, 2024Chapel - Thursday, May 2, 2024Order of Service:PreludePsalm 122: I Rejoiced (Stephen Dean): Refrain: I rejoiced when I heard them say, "Let us go to the house of the Lord." I rejoiced when I heard them say, "Let us go to the house of the Lord!" / I rejoiced... I rejoiced when I heard them say, "Let us go to God's house." And now our feet are standing in your gates, O Jerusalem! / I rejoiced... Jerusalem is built as a city, strongly compact. It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord! / I rejoiced... For Israel's law it is, there to praise the Lord's name. There were set the thrones of judgement of the house of Israel! / I rejoiced...Acts 2:42-47: They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.DevotionPrayerHymn 212 - Lord Jesus, Thou the Church's Head (View)BlessingPostludeService Participants: Rev. May 01, 2024Vespers - Wednesday, May 1, 2024Order of Service:PreludeHymn 581 - Draw Us To Thee, in Mind and Heart (View)The Versicles (pp. 120-121)James 1:16-21: Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first-fruits of His creatures. So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.HomilyThe Versicle (p. 122)The Nunc Dimittis (p. 124)The Kyrie (p. 124)The Lord's Prayer (p. 125)Hymn 584 - Grant Peace, We Pray, in Mercy, Lord (View)The Collect (pp. 125-127)The Benedicamus (p. 127)The Benediction (p. 127)Hymn 586 - How Blest Are They Who Hear God's Word (View)PostludeService Participants: Chaplain Don Moldstad (Preacher), Rev.
