Shawn takes us behind the scenes of Woodstake, from the comic's origins to its collision of vampire mythology, hippie culture, classic rock and 1960s counterculture. We get into the make-or-break role of comic art and the distinctive visual style of Woodstake, which combines 3D modeling with traditional painting to create its psychedelic world.
Shawn is also the founder of SHP Comics, the independent publishing company behind Woodstake. He talks about what goes into taking an original comic from an idea to a finished book, and how his background as an award-winning experimental filmmaker has shaped the way he tells stories.
Plus, Micaela and Jerbil get into some of their favorite vampire comics and share a whole stack of horror reading recommendations to get you through spooky season.
If you’re into vampire horror, horror comics, psychedelic horror, indie comics, Woodstock 1969, weird fiction, or stories that throw a bunch of things together that probably shouldn’t work but somehow do, this episode is for you.
