But they were literally surrounded by death when cholera-contaminated waters flooded the rice fields surrounding their village. In many ways, Sunny Jim Ballpark was like the iconic 'Wrigley Field' of Joplin, at least, for little leaguers; but, after a tornado ripped though the community, the park was destroyed and there was little left to remind families of its memories.
