An "EASY" approach to getting desirable results with meditation practice
This book by Light Watkins is a practical guide to meditation. Light guides readers on applying methods to overcome obstacles to having satisfying meditation experiences. He provides some detailed explanations about how our minds work and how placing willful effort into quieting the mind often generates the opposite effect. Basically, what we resist persists, so "trying" to slow down or silence the mind will often lead to disappointment, since meditation does not really involve turning off one's mind. The author proposes a method he refers to using the acronym E.A.S.Y. "E.A.S.Y." refers to Embrace - Acceptance - Surrender - Yield. He also encourages people to find a way to promote their commitment to meditation practice - making it something they consider important and valuable and ultimately a part of one's routine that becomes desirable and rewarding.
He begins by describing his early misunderstandings and disappointments with meditation followed by his encountering a teacher who helped him shift to a more successful approach. He eschews some of the common meditation practices you see taught by yogis and various self-help gurus, while he goes a little overboard in discounting those practices in my opinion. Meditation techniques tend to be designed to help a person shift the activity of the mind and the focus of awareness.
