In this week’s episode…

  • You’ll learn you can’t hit a target you don’t set so make sure you start by defining your career goals and the type of job you’re seeking
  • Next, set a goal to apply for a certain number of positions each day or week. 2-3 applications per day is key
  • Finally, follow up – because following up is not stalking; it’s a key transferable skill
  • Are you a recent graduate or someone with a degree actively seeking employment? Landing a job in 30 days or less is a realistic goal with the right strategy and determination. My goal today is to guide you through effective steps to maximize your chances of securing a job quickly.

First, get your resume and cover letter done because when you start networking you’ll be asked for them. Your resume and cover letter are your first impressions on potential employers. Tailor them to the specific job you’re applying for, highlighting relevant skills and experiences. Use action verbs and quantify your achievements to grab attention. Proofread carefully to eliminate errors.

Second, leverage your alumni network. You have a degree, which means you went to a university. Many universities offer career services that can put you in touch with alumni who are already working at companies that are a good fit for you. Take advantage of these resources to gain a competitive edge.

Third, define your career goals and the type of job you’re seeking. Knowing your direction will help you target your job search effectively and make informed decisions.

Fourth, utilize job search engines and job boards. Tap into popular job search engines like LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, and Monster. Create profiles on these platforms and set up job alerts to receive notifications of relevant job openings. But, don’t rely on these sites exclusively for an easy win, you’ll have to network too.

Networking, my fifth point, is a powerful tool for finding job opportunities. Attend industry events, join professional associations, and connect with alumni from your university. Leverage platforms like LinkedIn to expand your network.

Sixth, be consistent – as in, apply for jobs consistently. Set a goal to apply for a certain number of positions each day or week. Don’t limit yourself to only one or two opportunities; cast a wide net.

Seventh, prepare for interviews before you get one – well before. Be ready for interviews by researching the company, practicing common interview questions, and preparing thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer. Conduct mock interviews with friends or mentors to gain confidence.

Eighth, follow up – because following up is not stalking; it’s a key transferable skill. After submitting applications and attending interviews, send thank-you emails to interviewers. Express your appreciation for the opportunity and reiterate your interest in the position. Following up demonstrates professionalism.

Ninth, get feedback. Don’t hesitate to seek advice from mentors, career counselors, or professionals in your field. They can provide valuable insights and feedback to improve your job search strategy.

Tenth and finally, be flexible and resilient. While it’s important to have clear career goals, be open to exploring different opportunities that may not align perfectly with your initial plans. Flexibility can lead to unexpected and fulfilling career paths.

In conclusion, landing a job with a degree in 30 days or less is achievable with the right approach. By honing your application materials, networking, and staying persistent, you can increase your chances of securing your dream job quickly.
