AAFCA has become a driving force in Hollywood, producing the annual AAFCA Awards—an annual major event on the awards season calendar, recently attended by icons like Tyler Perry, Amber Ruffin, Colman Domingo, RaMell Ross, and Danielle Deadwyler.

With over 50 national magazine covers, multiple NAACP Image Award-nominated books, and a career dedicated to amplifying Black voices, Gil has shaped conversations around media representation for decades. As an author and editor, he has published works including Writing as a Tool of Empowerment and anthologies exploring Black identity, love, and family. A frequent commentator on entertainment and culture, he also serves on the boards of the Geena Davis Instituteand California Humanities.
