I really love fall. The color of the leaves in our neighborhood trees are really striking. Another thing I really like about fall, or October in particular, is Halloween. After Christmas and Thanksgiving its got to be my favorite holiday. And for more reasons than monster movies on TV and free candy, which isn't so free for me anymore. No, there's a really good reason for my fondness for Halloween.

Greetings everyone and welcome to the 10th episode of the Blog Oklahoma Podcast. Wow 10 episodes. I realize in the scope of the pod-o-sphere, my little podcast about life in Oklahoma is barely a drop in the bucket. But I'm happy about it. To me 10 episodes is quite an achievement for someone sitting in the corner of a guest bedroom using a USB Headset microphone, recording with Audacity, and constantly being interrupted by firetrucks, barking dogs, and a cat named Baby.

I finally was able to work on part of that task I mentioned last episode, that has been eluding me for some time.  I was able to craw up our new ladder, and start the much needed scrapping of the paint.  I worked on the job for a few hours removing the old weathered pealing green paint. And just as I was finishing up the sky grew gray and dark, as if something ominous was happened. In The News:

On October 14, 1968 an earthquake caused minor damage at Durant, Oklahoma.  Walls cracked, glass was broken, can goods fell from shelves,  and a 5 foot tall advertising stand was reported to have fallen over.

On these last few rainy days I got to thinking about my friends.  Mostly the friends I've lost touch with.  Its been time, distance, or both that has separated us from each other.  Everyone gets busy with their lives. You loose track of time, and before you know it years have past since the last time you talked. Oh you might exchange e-mail with them from them from time to time, or not.  You might find them again on Facebook, only neither of you really use Facebook all that much.  So there you have it, a missed friend.  Oh its not your fault, its not their's.  You just took separate paths on life's journey.  It happens.  I myself am missing my best friend.  I haven't seen her since my wedding.  And that was some time ago. We just lost track of time and each other.  Oh don't let me give you the impression I'm sitting here all depressed over it.  It just sometimes I'll be reminded of my old friends from a picture on the wall.  Or I'll hear a song on the radio, and I'll think, "Hey you know who would like this..."  It happens, and I'll miss them. and I'll think, "I really wish it would quit raining."   So I would like to put this challenge out to you, call up an old friend. Its time again for one of the greatest seasons of them all.  No I'm not talking about autumn, I'm talking about Football Season.  Teams across our nation are taking to the field in the hopes to punch through to the end zone just to hear one of the greatest of words, "Touchdown".  This is the time of year when every Friday night is taken up with High School football, every Saturday is booked with College Football, and every Sunday is alive with the NFL.  This is the time of year that brings families together and neighbors apart. Its a time where everyone shows off their colors, whether it be red & white, orange & black, or yellow & green. Here we sit in the midst of American history. At the time I record this we are between two major party political conventions. The Democratic Party has just finished theirs with a historic night of music and great speeches. Now we get to see what the Republican Party will bring. Unfortunately we are also in the midst of another gulf coast hurricane. Visions of Katrina are on the front of every ones mind at about three years to the day. The mistakes of the past haunt us. Oklahomans around the state are ready with a helping hand. Evacuation centers are being opened for anyone fleeing the coast. To everyone arriving I want you to know that Oklahoma is here for you in your time of need.
