June 21, 2010Blog Oklahoma Podcast 67: Guitars, Cadilacs, and VuvuzelasI've been watch several World Cup matches over the last week or so and I've discovered something. They're 90 minutes long. So I've had to do something to keep my American short attention span in check. I've found on a few broadcasts I can switch language feeds. The other day I watched an entire match in German. Very entertaining. Oh wait a moment, something missing. I'm talking about World Cup and it's not sounding right. Luckily there is an app for that. I don't know how I've ever enjoyed listening to sports with out the constant drone of angry bees. Now with this handy iPhone app I can enjoy the vuvuzela anytime I want to liven up a sporting event like oh say the U.S. Open. June 14, 2010Blog Oklahoma Podcast 66: Primary SeasonDid you know it now only takes 2 minutes to make popcorn. I don't know why I brought that up. It's probably because I've only had a grilled cheese sandwich today and I guess I'm hungry. It's amazing though in roughly 2 minutes I can enjoy some hot buttery popcorn. I'm just old enough to remember it use to take 3 1/2 minutes, and you use to have to stand by the microwave and listen for it to stop popping or it would burn. I can remember many a day at the office when the smell of burnt popcorn wafted down the hallways. Luckily those days are gone now that popcorn technology gotten us to 2 minutes. I'm gonna go get some popcorn. May 16, 2010Blog Oklahoma Podcast 63: Storm SeasonAs many of you already know its storm season here in Oklahoma. I hope everyone is safe and sound, and my prayers go to all to stay safe, and to everyone already effected by the recent storms. If you haven't yet, I'd advise you get a storm kit together. A storm kit consists basic first aid supplies among other important items you'll need just in case the worse happens. Now we keep a bag near the door so we can quickly grab it if we have to leave for the shelter. In it well keep a flashlight, a small first aid kit, our checkbooks, a weeks worth of medication, a phone charger, a weather radio, and a change of socks. That's just little an example. I suggest you visit ready.gov and read up on what you should have in a storm kit. I'll have a link in the show notes. April 11, 2010Blog Oklahoma Podcast 60: The Hard Part DoneIt's been one of those weeks. I am mentally tired right now. Besides working on the Blog Oklahoma clean up, it's been 'Get It Done' time at the day job, not to mention all the household chores, dealing with life in general, and hey getting a podcast out this week. The only moment of peace I've had all week were the few hours it took to mow the lawn. The first mow of the season. It's just me, the lawn, the mower, and what ever playing on my iPod at that time. It was bliss. Even though I was physically exhausted when I got done; mentally I was relaxed. Well, up until the time my son lost his key that he in his possession just mere moments before. Sigh. Hurry up lawn and grow. I need to mow. March 29, 2010Blog Oklahoma Podcast 58: Big Home HunterYou would think that getting a new house would be a fairly straight forward process; you determine what you want, get a list of homes that fit that criteria and then you select one. In practice, it is a chaotic and confusing fall down a rabbit hole of increasingly complex legal and financial requirements spinning around your head like angry bees, waiting to swoop in and sting you if you make a single mistake; while at the same time trying to arrange to visit with increasingly annoyed sellers who don't want to have to stop watching jeopardy so you can see the home that they claim they want to sell. Hello this is your guest host Chad Henderson, and as you can tell, I am trying to find a home. A very big thank you to Chad for filling in for me this week.
