Blood and Black Rum Podcast - A Cult Film / Horror Podcast

We start Festivus 2017 with THE SANTA CLAUSE, the original 1994 comedy starring Tim Allen as a corpulent guy turning into jolly old Saint Nick. We talk about Neal's sweaters, Tim Allen's sarcasm, the underlying sinister intent in the film, Santa Claus kidnapping minors, and other comedy gold from this nostalgic Christmas movie. We're also drinking Brooklyn Winter Lager.

We continue our coverage of all of the new superhero films with Justice League - even though we were disappointed with Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad and only fairly intrigued with Wonder Woman. Justice League is definitely a step up from the former two films but it doesn't match the solid storyline of the latter - we talk about the problematic characterization of the Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg, the issues with the infusion of tone-deaf humor, JK Simmons' toupee, Aquaman's uselessness, and more! We also drink New Belgium's Cellar Blender Sour Ale!

Our Thanksgiving episode hits a little early with our coverage of Thankskilling, the 2009 low-budget horror film. We try to figure out if it's intentionally or unintentionally bad; either way, we enjoy the ridiculousness of the plot, the bad dialogue, the tons of puns, the big boobies at the beginning of the film, and more! We also talk about Keystone Light because that's what they're drinking in the film.

We're back with a new superhero episode! We're talking about the new MCU film THOR: RAGNAROK. We discuss the weird plotting issues that plague the film, Jeff Goldblum's presence, the colorful synth-y new world that Taika Waititi has built, and the more comedic aspect of this release. We also discuss Budweiser's new 1933 Prohibition Repeal Amber Lager!

Our last Remakeoween episode is Rob Zombie's Halloween from 2007. We saw this in theaters back when it released but haven't seen it since; we talk about the Zombification of John Carpenter's original, the trailer trash Michael Myers in this film, the presence of Malcolm McDowell for some strange reason, the film's inability to come up with a solid backstory for Michael despite spending an hour on his past, and more! We also talk about Genesee's Dark Chocolate Scotch Ale. On our seventh Remakeoween episode, we take on the remake A Nightmare on Elm Street with Jackie Earl Haley as the killer Freddy Kreuger. We talk about the CGI violence and gore, Freddy's jokey presence, the transition from Kris to Nancy as main character, douchebros, and compare the whole thing to Wes Craven's original. We also drink Harpoon's Flannel Friday and Golden Ale beers. On our sixth Remakeoween episode we talk about Friday the 13th, the 2009 remake - and luckily it corresponds with Friday, October 13th! We talk about stupendous boobies, all of the film's gory scenes, the douchebag bros that populate the cast, the fast-moving Jason, and we critique the film's 20 minute pre-title opening. We also cover some News in a new segment, and a new beer segment: Sam Adams Octoberfest vs. Harpoon Octoberfest! In our fifth Remakeoween episode we take on Evil Dead, the 2013 remake from Fede Alvarez that is not exactly a reboot and not exactly a remake. We talk about how it sits somewhere in between, discuss the attempts at homage, the increased violence, the poor acting, and the new plot involving drug addiction and metaphorical demons. We also talk about Kelso Brewing Company's IPA. Our Remakeoween continues with HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1999), a remake that attempts to capture the cheesiness of the original William Castle film by adding a Vincent Price-esque figure and some real supernatural events. We talk about Famke Janssen, Chris Kattan's weird role, the CGI effects for The Darkness, and the fun late '90s feel of the movie. We also discuss the new beer delivery service Hopsy and Bronx Brewery's Summer Pale Ale with lemon.
