Hasty Novella
Don't get me wrong; it was a nice little novella. The plot was good and it was entertaining. It just felt like a waste of time. It doesn't tell the reader much that she doesn't already know or that she needs to know. It doesn't delve into the relationships that Rhona has although it does explain how she met Sean. I felt like this plot-line could have been used later in the series are a sequel instead of a prequel. Like I said, it was a good book and worth the time it took to read it (hour and a half). It just wasn't worth the money.
An okay crime novella but nothing special
WHAT I THOUGHT
Blood Red Roses is an okay crime novella but itâs nothing special. I read the authorâs novel Dark Flight years ago and have never read any more of her books so I was intrigued when I recognised the authorâs name. The novella stands on its own. You really donât need to have read any of the authorâs books or know anything about the characters. The plot is a bog-standard stalker turns murderer so thereâs nothing particularly original. The method of murder by strychnine poisoning is quite gruesome and not something Iâve come across before so it was quite interesting. I didnât know who the killer was so his identity was a revelation I didnât see coming. Overall, Blood Red Roses wasnât bad and I read it in one sitting but the novella didnât seem to have much point which was disappointing.
Disappointed on price
Not buying on principle ! The same price for a 100 page novella as for a full book ? The authors publishers must be joking ! I'd like to think the author herself doesn't think that price structure is appropriate so I'll blame them ... Especially as it's an ebook and it doesn't cost anything to produce as such ! Really disappointed, though I'm sure I'll live without reading this installment in the series, having just bought the full series after being 1/2 way through book one, as I'm enjoying it so much, if I had seen this first, I might of thought again about supporting this author.
