From his early days playing in and around Wigan and St Helens, Chris chats about all the highs and lows of his rugby league career. Raising much needed funds for Bowel Cancer. Amassing over £15000 for the charity.

Welcome to Bloody Amateurs — the podcast that celebrates the legends, the lunatics, and the lords of amateur sport. Your host is Dennis McQuillan: the big hits, the bad decisions, and the even worse stories that somehow get better every year.

Today’s guest is a man who’s played rugby league and union, loves a pint, loves a bet. Also has some great tales of his career. Welcome John Done.

This is Bloody Amateurs — let’s get into it. 🏉

This week on Bloody Amateurs, the lads sit down with rugby star Alan Reddecliff for a brilliant mix of laughs, memories, honesty and proper rugby chat.

From freezing mornings at Grappenhall Griffins to professional spells with Widnes and Warrington, Alan talks through his journey in the game — including playing alongside legends like Sean Long, facing future stars, captaining successful amateur sides, and eventually finding a second rugby family through union and Masters rugby.

The episode dives into everything that makes grassroots sport special: discipline, camaraderie, dressing room chaos, family support, and the mental health benefits that come from being part of a team. There’s also plenty of classic Bloody Amateurs nonsense along the way, including stories about deep heat disasters, Wolfie getting punched, Masters rugby madness, and why nobody should ever underestimate the power of a rugby changing room.

Expect rugby stories, laughs, emotional moments, and the usual off-the-rails banter from the Bloody Amateurs crew.

Featuring: 🏉 Alan Reddecliff 🏉 Professional rugby memories from Widnes & Warrington 🏉 Amateur glory days with Leigh Miners & Warrington Wizards 🏉 Masters rugby, mental health & camaraderie 🏉 Stories about Sean Long, Sam Burgess, modern rugby & more

Today’s guest is a man who’s done it all — tackles he probably shouldn’t have made, nights he definitely shouldn’t remember, and a career that still gets talked about in sheds up and down the country. We are joined by Alan “Brinko” Brinksman. We’re diving into his rugby league journey, reliving the glory days, the near-deaths, and the absolute nonsense that only amateur rugby can produce.

Expect laughs, honesty, and a few stories that might never make it past the team WhatsApp again. This is Bloody Amateurs — let’s get into it. 🏉

This week on Bloody Amateurs, host Dennis McQuillan sits down with the one and only Peter Spid Ryder - rugby hard-man (or should that be fat-man), storyteller, and the proud owner of a custom-made song.

Dennis and Spid dive deep into Spid’s rugby career, reliving the biggest hits, the wildest matches, and the moments that defined his time on the pitch. Then the lads go off-field, trading tales of legendary nights out drinking - full of laughter, questionable decisions, and classic Spid chaos.

And of course, they revisit the infamous moment Dennis himself wrote a song for Pete, revealing how it came to be and why it still follows Spid everywhere he goes.

It’s unfiltered, hilarious, and packed with the kind of stories only Bloody Amateurs can deliver.

Tune in and enjoy!
